Hey folks, ya it's been raining... ... and some of it has found it's way into the cab and puddled up on the driver's side floorboard. I checked the door seal(which whistles at anything over 70mph) and the window seals and no apparent sign of damage.

Could it just be that the weak door seal lets the water through??

Is there an aftermarket seal that will provide a tighter fit??

I'm no help to you because I've got a passenger side floorboard that is soaked under the carpet and cannot for life of me find where it is coming from. Its raining now and I still can't find it. My seals all look great, it doesn't smell like antifreeze so I don't think its the heater core. I feel your misery. :{

i also h ad a problem with water in the cab also. i found out that the 3d brakelight

gasket starts to leak. I bought one from the dealer for 20 and change and it solved the problem. also the water works its way over to the right side and makes it look like a heater core leak but it isnt. run your hand on the floor behind driverd seat and i bet that it will be wet behind there too. the first thing i would check is that 3d brake light seal and go from there

yes, I'm clueless also, I must have leaked over a quart or so in just one night and no sign of entry

I'm starting to think it could be comming from the top of the firewall / seam or bottom of the windshield and then the dripps walk along under the dash to a low point and drop from there.

I've looked under the dash with a very bright light soon after the latest episode and couldn't find the little rascles.

JRAGLAND, also check your 3d brake light gasket i know that is your problem 2 screws

and the light comes out,and 1 eletrical connector and its off. check for dirt and junk behind the light, quick fix clean dirt out and put a bead of clear silicone to seal and re install hope that helps you

The third brake light is probably the problem. If it leaks the water runs around the rear window inside the interior trim. The side it goes usually depends on which way the truck leans when it is parked. The rear floor under the seats is raised a little so there is a channel on both sides in the back that acts like a drain gutter. The result is a wet floor in the front.

I just had the 3rd brake light off to run a sat radio wire through the bottom side of it. The seal was really tight almost to the point of hard to remove and seemed good. That is when I actually found the water under the carpet while I was running that wire underneath it. We hadn't had any rain in weeks. Made me wonder? But anyway, I'll try sealing it better.

In addition to the 3rd brake light, rear window, and marker light leaks, another possibility is the U channel of the door weatherstrip. If the outer door top seal leaks, water can get to the U channel. Water follws the channel down the pinch weld then dumps out right at the front corner of the door, If you remove the plastic step shield, pull up the weatherstrip to see if its wet in the channel.

Had to fill mine with a bit of sealant to stop that leak on my 01.

My 96 had the 3rd brake light leak and the rear window was falling out.

You will also find that the rug never dries (unless you live in AZ I guess)

Still battling the water comming in... . did the 3rd brake light fix.

Cleaned out behind/under the top door weatherstripping. Found lots of good stuff in there. Part of the outer seal was slightly loose along the top. So I preped both top sides for some silicone.

Hard to see a better way to shore up the waterleaks. If I don't silicone the tracks, the grit already down in there where the seal is affixed will keep the thing from making full contact and NOT prevent water seapage.

Anybody else out there find that these seals are only good for a few years and then pow... . ther'er toast.

What would it coast to replace both the top upper and lower door seals. I'll start holding my breath.

I can think of at least ten different autos from the eighties alone I've either owned or been in that had better weatherstripping/seal integrity than this '01.

I'm open to other's input here... ... . I know I'm not alone with the rinkydink set up that is on many of our rigs.

Does your truck have cab clearance lights? I know this can be a problem on the 3rd gen trucks. My 03 has leaked in the car wash. Water was coming out the grab handle. There was a tsb on this problem so you should look under the tsbs and you will probably find an easy fix.

My 96' was leaking through the rear window and the side of the front windshield. It's probably a good idea to remove the carpet to dry out. Once the carpet is out have a friend take a hose to the outside of the vehicle. This should highlight the problem. When my carpet was out I used the steam cleaner for a thorough cleaning.
