Does anyone know for sure if the wire for cab lights is already above the headliner, i have 2001 with the overhead console. In some posts below there seems to be a difference of opinion on this. Would be nice to hear from someone who has personally seen the already installed wire from factory.

I can assure you that the harness is NOT above the headliner on model year 2000 Ram 2500's that are equipped with the overhead console w/trip computer. I imagine that there is no difference for model year 2001.

A friend of mine added lights to my rig. The wire is not there, the holes for the wire was there but we put the harness in for the wire to go across to power the lights. Been in there a year or more and no problems at all. Of course the worse part is watching someone drill holes in the cab of a new truck. Looks just like factory. Hope this helps.

I wish I knew. With mine, back in 1997, I had to fight just to get one late in the model year with the correct gearing and options. When it arrived, it was perfect... . except for the lights... . it had none. It did, though, have the overhead compass and thermometer, so maybe it did have the harness. I was stuck and had already paid for the truck, but managed to act upset to the dealer about the lights. He had them done before I was able to pick up the truck and it cost like eighty or a hundred bucks. He said it was a really easy job. The harness that runs up the A-pillar looks factory, so your guess is as good as mine. All trucks with the Diesel engine should come with the lights anyway.
