I want to get roof lights for my 97, but I want the newer style sleek looking ones. I have done alot of searching and there is some confusion on the part #s . I read several posts of people getting the old style when they ordered the new style lights through dodgeparts.com. Some of these posts were pretty old, so I was wondering if anyone has ordered any recently?

i installed a set from recon on my 97. I did not have any problems with the installation, however, I was not confident with the plugs they included. I just wired my own in.

There are aftermarket Dodge-specific LED replacements available for an outrageous cost, something like $180! But if you are doing a new install, you might want to go down to a local truck & trailer supply (for semis) and check out the nice LED cab lights they have available. LED's are far superior to factory roof lights and will add minimal load to your wiring and headlight switch while probably outlasting the truck.

Another option would be to go a little dressier and add a Lund Moonvisor with clearance lights built right in. I like those.

Crazy, I have an 01 and have been thinking about adding these lights to my truck and had a couple questions.

Did you have to completely remove the headliner to gain access to install the lights?

Also, did you find that the wiring harness was already in the truck from the factory?I have read in older threads that in some trucks this is the case.

Thanks for the info.

It's pretty easy to do the install. I followed AggiePhil's Overhead Clearance Light Installation

instructions to the T
. The headliner is fairly easy to pull down you have to be careful with removing the clothes hanger hooks that have a release on one of the sides of the square. I didn't know about the release tabs and wound up jerking them down breaking the tabs off. No big deal I ordered 2 replacements. The kit I ordered came with everything you need to hook them up, including the hot wire that runs down the door post to the hl switch. There is no "factory" harness there to hook up to. You'll need to pull the benzel off from around the speedo and quage to access the hl switch, very east to do by hand with firm pulls where the tabs hold it in place. Also very important >>> DO NOT USE THE TEMPLATE IF ONE IS IN THE KIT. After the headliner is down drill up from the inside being sure you are centered when drilling your 7/8" hole.

I put this kit on my truck and spliced the lights into a switched wire off the headlight switch I found under the windshield post on the pass. side. I didnt mess with going all the way to the actual HL switch. Just use your test light to find the wire. Has not been an issue in almost 5 yrs. .
