Does anyone know what the bolts that hold the cab to the frame thead into? Are there nuts on top that need to be held with a wrench, i. e. take the carpet out to get to them? Or do they go into nuts that are welded into the body?

I'm trying to design some nerf bars/steps and need to figure how to attach them to the frame.

Thanks,

Blake

They come right out from the bottom, the nuts are captive (probably welded to the cab). They are M12's. Dont have the length because I changed them out when I installed mine. The kit came with 2 M12x140 and they were about a 3rd longer. . I need to replace the back ones as they barely grabbed. Had to use a jack to get them up close enuff to thread in. Take one out and measure because you will need to get longer ones.

Thanks Ben,

I figured they were probably like that. Otherwise they would have run the bolts down from the top like my Bronco did. I presume they're grade 8 or at least 5. Not sure how the metric units work in that regard. Since the truck is new, I should probably take them all out and anti-sieze them so they can be removed easily later.

I'm sitting here at work trying to work out some nerf bar plans in my head. Mounting them should be easy if I use the cab mount method that Westin uses. It should be strong enough if I use heavy enough brackets.

I had to replace them when I put the Lonestar Running Boards (nerf bars with expanded metal welded on top)on. I have the old ones at home and I will measure them when I get home if thats any help. The stock bolts were not long enough when I put the running boards on. Mine are full length and mount to the cab mounts and the rear mounts on the rear spring eye.

Where to buy bolts?

Does anyone have suggestions on where to buy 12m 1. 72 120 mm metric bolts?

I'm in the process of making my running boards and having problems finding metric bolts this size locally.

Thanks.

Thanks Jeff,

I checked them out and also found this company - Fastenal - with stores near me. Though they were a little more than McMaster Carr, I only needed four and I did not have to order them. I paid $2. 25 each.

Blakers,

I wasn't sure if you had a Fastenal close, but the one close to me has to order frequently anyway.

McMaster Carr is not only cheaper on all sorts of hardware, but sell a lot of metal cheap if you need less than a full length. Most steel houses sell "all or none" ..... the cut charge is equal to the steel that you are buying, lol.

Check them out the next time you need something for truck or home, I own a machine shop and use them all the time :D
