Needed 4 wheel drive this weekend and would you know it, no cad engagement. One day I will install the free spin hubs from Dynatrac or EMS. Dynatrac has a CAD delete kit that replaces the two piece axle with a 35 spline one piece for the right, 35 spline new left axle, u-joints, seals, and 35 spline spider gears for diff. EMS also has this set up with a one piece axle that has been turned down to a small diameter to work.

I prefer the Dynatrac.

How difficult is it to replace the spider gears? Do you need to take out the entire differential to replace them?

Any ideas or suggestion?

Thanks, Bunyan

What gear ratio is the truck? With the 3. 55, I couldn't get the gears out past the ring gear so the differential carrier had to be pulled to take off the ring gear. Without air tools, it probably added an hour to the job so it isn't too bad.

If you are looking to eliminate the cad and don't want to open up your differential right now, posi-lok sells a cad elimination kit that basically engages the collar full time. This would get you 4 wheel drive again soon and you could do the conversion to manual hubs later.

3. 55's are what I have. I think the money for the posi-lok that locks the collar in place would be better spent on the one piece axle for what I have planned in the future. I want manual hubs, one piece axle, and a power-lok. Since the cad went bad I can replace the axle now and eliminate the weak two axle and collar. This will be the first step now in accomplishing my goal.

When i'm at the farm and it's in the boondocks there is no relying on anyone for help.

Last weekend I was crossing a large ditch to get to the other side of the property and no front axle engagement. So I thougth vacuum leak. No leak, but the vacuum motor on the cad is very loose in its housing and not working. Thanks, Bunyan
