Fireman Dave, this is for you!

My girlfriend and I were crawling through heavy traffic and stayed beside a Black Cadillac Escalade for about a mile or so. I kept wishing I could catch a red light with him in the next lane so I could show him what a Dodge/Cummins could do:D

Right before he turned off I pointed and said, "Honey, how would you like it if I bought one of those trucks". She said, "If you buy that thing you better be planning on riding alone because I'm not going to embarrass myself getting into anything that ugly!":-laf :-laf :-laf

The newest escalade has the 8. 1L V8 as an option, beware lining up with one as they are pretty darn quick!!!! Personally I like the escalade.

The new generation of GM SUV's are fast. Sad to say my wife's 2002 Trailblazer can easily beat me from the stoplight, highway passing and top speed. It can't haul our fifth wheel up a long grade at 70+ MPH though!

rraaush,its a good thing you didnt catch a light,the 2001-2002 escalade has 345hp,and runs 15. 7-15. 9 in the 1/4 mi,and low 7 sec 0-60. . They have a deep 3. 06 to 1 1st gear,and 4. 10 gears,and AWD. You wouldnt stand a chance,not even off the line. /A #6 plate,and a trans is not enough to stay with that truck!I personally think the Escalade is good looking.

I like the Escalade, but hate the Avalanche (chevy). It looks to plasticky for me. And you guys are right, that 8. 1 is a goer. My brother has a Chevy 2500 HD with the 8. 1 and the Allison auto. I know he'd beat me off the line. Time for some bombing.

I too think that the Avalance and Escalade are ugly. I think the design engineers for the Aztec were borrowed to design those things. They remind me of some of those robots and cars on the cartoons created in Japan.

sdalton... finally a man with good taste!:D

She also said the Escalade looked like it came out of the "alien truck simulator" backwards. Even if it is faster... ahem... which I ASSURE you it is NOT  it just looked weird like some sort of monstrosity contraption gone bad. Dad gum it a TRUCK oughta look like a TRUCK!:D :p :)

Sorry all you plastic lovers! Frankly The best cars were in the 60's and 70's. I know I will take a ration of flack for this but the new SUV pickups can't make up their mind if they are a car or a pickup so why wouldn't they be UGLT???

Just my dollarw worth. :) :D

Happy Camper. You need to clarify. The best looking cars came from the 60's and early 70's. The fastest are here now. But the ones now are the hardest to work on. It seems to me that the cars now are all plastic, and have the sentimental value of a used Bic Lighter, once they hit 5-10 years old.

rraush, update your signature, since you have more bombs than a #6,and a transmission. Based on whats in your signature, you havent got a chance.

Sorry! Ten lashes for me for forgeting that the Dodge Ram is the exception by a large margin. That is why the other copycats followed the trend but fell way short.

Since the 60s-70s manufacturers have learned well how to maximize profits. Sell more complicated and expensive cars, sell more complicated and expensive parts, perform more complicated and expensive labor, repeat. Funny thing is the average consumer falls for it.

On the other side of the coin, if You were making money from manufacturing cars, would this sound like a good idea to You? MMmmm...

I too am greatly offended by the styling of the Avalanche/Escalade, they were obviously influenced by the Aztec, and I would like to hear anyone defend it's styling.

To me the best period of auto styling was roughly 1955-1975, and even as late as '75 the cars were stone simple to work on. It is not really the car companies fault todays vehicles are so complicated. You can thank your wonderfull Government, as EPA/emission regulations, safety standards/airbags/antilocks etc. and Coprorate Average Fuel Economy are the reasons. Remove all of that and vehicles could cost up to $10. 000 less. It is not the evil, greedy car companies, but Government. Think of that the next time you vote Democrat.

That's why for years I drove old trucks. I restored 2 1954 Chevy trucks and drove them for about 15 years. First a 1/2 and then a 3/4 ton. Both were great trucks, simple to work on and I figured the lack of A/C & P/S only made me tougher and stronger! Finally I saw the light though, and got my Dodge. I have never regretted it a bit. :D

Personally I feel our emissions situation is made much more complicated by the huge Immigration quotas each year. The more Immigrants we take in, the more pollution we'll have, the more the gov'mint will have to regulate emissions, the less freedom we'll have, and the more Democrats we'll have.

My cousin, who's been an auto mechanic for over 40 years, was talking about working on an Aztec the other day. He said he was so embarrassed taking a check out ride in that thing that he's thinking about making up some big magnetic signs that say "This is not my car". Can't say as I blame him, the signs would also come in handy for Escalante's, Avalanche's, and Navigator's IMHO.

You know I owe all you guys a BIG APOLOGY.:eek::eek: I realized this morning that what I was calling an Escalade was actually the Escalade EXT... the one that looks like a pickup (--from mars IMO).
