I live in SoCalif and took my 2006 5. 9L truck in for its manadatory smog check, my first as i've had this truck just about 1 year now.

Technician said it would have passed, but the test showed the computer had been reset... asked me if anyone had disconnected the battery. No one has, but we did find one terminal that was loose. He suggested i "drive it a while" and come back for a re-test... which he said should fix this.

Ok... . this sounds goofy as all get out to me... . anyone have any experience or knowledge of this? Additional factoids would include that this truck MAY have original batteries... and i had several instances of the air bag warning light coming on... lights flickered... radio went off and on, but that has not happened for several weeks now.

Any thoughts are appreciated

Well First off Welcome to the best Dodge Forumon the web firsdt thing I would do is have someone check the Batteries with a Load tester or better yet just replace both batteriesd and have a peace of mind that you won't have anymore problem's What part of so cal are you in ? if you are close to High desert area IE Victorville valley area PM me I have a Very good battery tester that makes the guy's at Auto zone drool when I use it I would be happy to help you out no charge .

Disconnecting the batteries for a while will reset the computer. I believe that recent reset will disqualify smog approval but after a number of restarts there is enough info in the computer to allow it. I would guess a loose connection could disrupt enough computer info and that fixing it should do the trick.

The 06 is a can bus truck. The smog machine does not connect to the trick for the smog test use a different smog station it should have been passed

I'm in awesome California also and had to smog mine for the first time in 3/2011. Guy told me it would be done in half hour. I came back an hour later to find the hood up and it still idling in the shop, tech straching his head looking at a book. I asked him, "Exactly what are you checking for" the reply was to make sure it had all of the factory smog equipment and it was not altered. After I passed the "you guys don't know what the !@#$ your doing" mark and was in the home strecth of ridiculing them about no factory smog, the lead guy told the tech to pass it. They never hooked anything up to the truck. Thanks California for making me pay $80 to smog something that wasn't designed to be smogged.

I bet most Cal. smog shops aren't upto to speed on smogging the older diesels.

thanks guys for all the input... i'm going to drive a bit... see what happens. if it still fails, i'll take to to another shop. New here... and besides appreciating the help, this confirms my thoughts that finding this site was the next best thing i've done about this truck... since buying it :)

When I brought my '07 in for the K01 emissions reflash, the ECM went down. Dodge installed a new one. I asked them to smog it seeing as they had installed the ecm. I was told be the service manager to drive it 200 miles in order for "the truck to learn new values".

I returned for the smog and pass it did,but the certificate said it was an '07. 5 6. 7 auto.

If I ever sell it,I don't know what's going to happen.

Calif SMOG stock 2006 won't pass

HELP Same problem as at start of this thread. 2006 truck, passed smog 2 yrs ago, last battery disconnect was 1 year ago when new batteries were installed. Tech hooked up to the ODB port and said the DODGE truck computer was not ready after an 8 mile drive. Took it out for a 25 mile hilly loop and it still won't pass. Hey guys, this truck is STOCK with low 22k miles, never had a chip. I'm a little PO'ed at this point, any suggestions?
