California emissions

I live in Oregon and had the dealer do a search for the CTD 3500 truck I want and some come up with California emissions and others Federal emissions package. What does the California emission package involve or affect on the Cummins? Would you go for the Federal or California package or does it make a difference?

It depends on the year of the truck. Built before Jan 1, 2004, the trucks do indeed have a different emissions package and will have lower HP and torque.



Anything built after Jan 1, 2004 will have the newer 600 or 610 lb ft torque engine and there is no difference other than the CARB sticker. The 600 & 610's are 50-state compliant.

Go for the federal truck. CA trucks except the newer ones (like 05 or 06) have less pwr.

What is the source for your claim? Dodge claims they are all the same; just a different emissions sticker.

Once they made the CTD 600, they were all the same. Only diff was the emission sticker. Too bad you waited so long. I sold my 04. 5 CTD 600 to a fella in Merced Calif a few months back. You are only about 100 miles north of me.

As for a New truck, I assume you are dealing with Kendal Dodge in Cottage Grove. That is the dealer that Lithia Dodge in Grants Pass dealer traded to get my truck last year. Mine was fully loaded and was a "Fed" emission truck. It wasn't a problem selling it to a California person as it had over 7500 miles on it when I sold it. You might want to take a drive to Grants Pass as I just drove past the dealer this morning and their lot is FULL of trucks. You might want to get a quote from Dave Smith first, because that is what I used to get the deal on my last 2 CTD'S there. They came within a few hundred bucks of Dave Smith and I didnt have to fly to Idaho. I feel it was well worth it as I didnt want 800 miles on my new truck before it ever saw my driveway. It seems that the Diesel truck market here has been somewhat dead since the hike in diesel prices You should be able to cut a pretty good deal right now. Just don't fall for the line, "these trucks are RARE and hard to get" That is bull. Almost every dealer has a rather large surplus of them lately, at least here in Southern Oregon and in Northern California.
