Miful, somewhere on TDR are several links that list the TYPES of aftermarket devices which are exempt from affecting your diesel smog test certification. IIRC, aftermarket CAI do NOT affect certifiability in and of themselves, thereforte, the smog test station that you took it to, does NOT know what they are doing, which is quite likely given the newness of these tests. My recomendation would be to print up a copy of the devices allowed from one of the links take it back to the same station. If they still do NOT want to test you, go to another test station, but be sure to bring the printout just in case they challenge you on the same thing.

On edit: these sites do NOT seem to be operating right now, as I am getting a failure to load error from my browser. Keep trying through the day, as I am sure that they have the info you need to print out...

On edit: removed links to CARB, as they were NOT the right ones.

On edit: Still sure the CAI does NOT affect diesel smog certification.

Cold air intake should have not been a problem. You should of ask for him to show you the spreadsheet from the state. To much trying to memorize things. If Control room operators ran nuclear power plants by trying to memorize we would be in a world of hurt.

From the AFE website:

11. Is my aFe air filter “street” or emission legal?

Since replacing the stock OE air filter with a high-flow performance air filter such as aFe does not change or affect the stock intake tract and emission controls, a performance air filter is considered “street” or CARB emission legal.

12. Is my aFe intake system “street” or emission legal?

Air intake systems do alter the stock intake tract and therefore, requires an exemption from CARB emission requirements. As a California based company aFe submits our intake systems to CARB for exemption so that the intake system can be used legally on the street. However, obtaining CARB exemption takes time and not all aFe intake systems are exempt. When an aFe intake system is not exempt, they would legal only in racing situations and not for street use in the 13 states that have adopted California emission standards. Contact our customer service dept @ 877-512-8111 to find out if a particular intake system is CARB exempt or not or check your local or state regulations.

The filter kits are legal on the diesel for the california smog program. The issue is the testers are not used to the diesel Test. I have the quick reference guide in front of me,unfortunately my old scanner is not compatible with my PC.

My 05 just passed last week with AFE stage 3 filter and intake horn

What a JOKE the smog test is.

Here is my . 02 cents, took my 06' Dodge Diesel to the local Smog Test and it was the first Diesel test for the smog tech... I was standing over his shoulder the whole time and all they do is answer the questions asked via the state PC and check the check engine light. They check the VIN and GVWR... I have a intake heater delete and a CFM+ and he never even noticed that (and I even wrapped the intake in aluminium foil to keep the heat out). He asked me if I had any tuners on it and never even looked at the exhaust. And all to the ripoff fee of $58 dollars... What a JOKE!!

idahoman has it right. scroll down to page 6, catagory 1 and you see that air intakes on diesels don't require carb. you can also do an internet search for diesel smog check in ca which will get you to more information. this was all over the previous threads. i just took my '01 in and passed with no problems. it has and afe stage 1. in previous thread i recommended that one should go to a place that knows diesels. going to the local gasser smog station is asking for trouble as they are too lazy to look up diesel information and go on what they "think" they know. if you still want to go to one of these, go with the information printed out from bar site so you know what to discuss when they want to not pass you.

TT,

Can you post the smog station in N. Cali that you went to ?

Thanks in advance...

really

the smog test station that you took it to, does NOT know what they are doing, So tell us something new most of the smog stations have jafar the smog man in the shop so you cant talk to him and when he gives you a reason for failing you cant understand him anyway you get ****** and leave and that is just what he wants ahh the California way of life

California smog BS is just what it is! It's a money grab for Ahnold. I can't wait to see what happens when its my turn. I bought my truck in MN and it smokes like there's no tomorrow! It was not CA compliant.
