Very true. I still hate the sob and everything he backed.

Quit "falling for it." The President is one man: the Scapegoat that everyone else hides behind. You have Congress, the courts, your local government... more or less a bunch of other people that one could focus their energy on.

The last President was a puppet on a string. So it's not just one person, but, the parties in power: both of them. CARB is a EPA requirement born solution for Commiefornia to clean up their air. They have had little choice from EPA requirements but to finally go after the big money like the once exempt farming. They really need to remove the mountain ranges that keep the bad air trapped or address *gasp* overpopulation of what is essentially a dessert.

Vehicle owners and truckers are the easiest targets due to lack of deep pockets to bribe and buy campaigns. The rest of the paperwork required for businesses to have a gas powered air compressor is nuts. OOIDA's lawsuit (taking the court route here) over the $18,000 DPF retrofits being required on all trucks entering the state for commerce is summed up here: http://www.landlinemag.com/Story.aspx?StoryID=69992#.WbrDI8ZlBM0

Most of the 2007 and older Dodge Cummins owners there are lucky they didn't apply it to all diesels and in fact CA has many exemptions to CA owned businesses that ruin the spirit of the unconstitutional law. Regardless I had to tell my parts broker I couldn't deliver over state lines to CA with my pickups anymore after the law went into effect. You could understand why I take great personal joy in Trump's gutting of the EPA and pi$$ing all over the Climate Change religious movement. I owned a 2008 DPF fuel guzzler used 50-100% of the time for commercial towing... Good Riddance to it BTW! (Again nothing I do would influence Trump. But a diffrence may be made by telling the party's minions to go with it esp. our ignorant AZ Republicans in office who need to get with it.) The 2007.5- DEF equipped diesels suffered reliability and economy due to the EPA's refusal to use DEF for their unobtainable goals they couldn't even fully test. EPA's out of hand and the angry mob isn't putting up with it any longer.

The dealer has given up, says nothing he can do. So will keep driving and checking. Will pay the registration fee and tell the I will send the Smog Cert when I can.

At least it's not a Commiefornia "visual" inspection where any smoke can be a subjective fail. The old 6.5 truck of mine is known to bust a flex plate during emissions snap testing resulting in people running away from the sudden knocking clatter. It's also known to blow out (soot coat) the sensors to where they can't get it to zero and officially fail it resulting is a directors cert for their equipment problems. Other nearby vehicles on the dyno are known to fail when they are doing diesel snap testing. :-laf Full fuel till max RPM and then measure the smoke at MAX RPM. The smoke getting up to max RPM isn't counted, but, causes problems. The turbo can't help on no-load snap testing and really is a restriction for intake and exhaust. Yes, an abusive worst case test these old engines weren't designed for as the valve cover sticker only lists NOx emissions limits. Officially they can run at max governed engine RPM all day loaded or not. Obtain Classic Car insurance and the emission test goes away in AZ. Not easy to do for a old beat up work truck.

There is a visual parts, but that's just to check for what they think is the right equipment and the emissions sticker being legible.
I did learn that they will GIVE you a free gas cap if you fail on that. Saved me $10 bucks on my Jeep last year.

No free gas caps here in cali

What am I missing? Why are you having to smog a less than two year old truck? I thought that the smog on new vehicles in CA wasn't until it was six years old, or is it different for diesels? Our '95 is exempt and we bought a '16 last year. My Challenger is almost 4 years old and we haven't had to smog it yet. I hate the CA smog process.

I now have put 555 miles on the truck since the recall reset the system. I still have the HCC and PM Drive Monitors not set. Anybody know what they do and how to turn them on?

In looking at the diesel warranty book that came with my truck, (correct me if I'm wrong) I believe that if it fails the smog, you can bring it to the dealer and they are responsible for the repair and getting it to pass.

An excerpt from the booklet:
"In addition, if your vehicle fails a smog check inspection, FCA US will make all necessary repairs and adjustments to ensure that your vehicle passes the inspection.
Your emission control system may include parts such as the catalytic converter and powertrain control module. Also included may be hoses, belts, connectors and other emission-related assemblies."
