Seems my Dodge has been a little short in the power dept. for the last 3 yrs & a question comes to mind... . 3 yrs ago I installed a new VP-44 while in Ontario, Ca. (bought new from Cummins/Fontana) It was not a REMAN unit. I understand the CA Dodge/Cummins were derated due to emissions. Does annyone know if the HP/Torque ratings are defined in the ECM or at the VP-44? If at the pump, may explain why my truck doesn't seem to have quite the guts it used to have.

Do you have the HO or a standard. The HO VP was different internally than the standard. Put one on the other and yes you will loose some power because of the match.

Post your truck sig.

The VP44 has the same part number in an application regardless of delivery state. The ECM part number for California delivery was different than the ECM part number for non-California delivery.

Yes, my truck is a H. O. -6sp std. I am posting this from my wireless phone & wasn't aware the truck sig doesn't show... . sorry.

So then, is the H. O. pump a different part number than the standard duty? I would think the Cummins parts dept. would have matched the number off my old pump... ... . (My fingers are crossed)

Oh Boy... ... I will definitely check those numbers when I get home. I know this may be a longshot, but I'll see if Cummins/Fontana will make it right with me if they gave me the wrong pump.

Just talked w/Cummins. This is my interpretation of our conversation... ...

all later versions of the ISB series are factory rated @ 300 hp. Anything different from that is a Chrysler programmed parameter. All VP-44 pumps from Cummins carry the same part #, and there is nothing different from each. Chrysler actually derates these engines with their program software for drivetrain warranty issues and liabilities.

If they did the install, did they flash the Ecm at that time. There were some that got flashed and did not run as well later

I did the swap behind their shop. As far as I remember, I have never had anything plugged into the ECM. (Never had the CEL illuminated either) I haven't driven this truck much in the last 3 yrs and just doesn't seem it has the grunt I remember while under a load. I never put a "tuner" on either. Who makes the best one for towing without doing harm. ('02 3500 NV-5600)

I do not believe this is correct. The VP-44 for the H. O. has a different piston diameter and stroke length as apposed to the VP-44 for the non H. O. To get the hot-rod VP-44, I believe thye take the two different VP styles, (H. O. and Non-H. O. ) and mix the longer stroke ability with the bigger diameter to achieve the performance of the hot rod VP-44.

There are in-fact two different versions of the VP-44 out there for the 2001 model of truck.

They oversimplified the story... ... ... . there are some well over 300hp factory cpls. There are also several part#s and some oem#s have been superceded a number of times, but all the Dodge app's could get by with just 2 #s
