Since DC cancelled my order for a 2001 ETH/DEE 3500, some fellow TDR members have been searching dealers in the U. S. for an in-stock truck. Ethdee has found a 3500 very close to what we wanted at a dealership in California. Naturally, this truck has the California emissions package vs the Federal (49 state) emissions package that would have come on the truck we ordered.

My question is - what is the mechanical difference between the emissions packages? Is there anything so horrible about the California emissions package in terms of compromising performance that I shouldn't consider a California truck?

Thanks for your help. #ad

This 3500 will be used to tow a 13,500 GVWR 5th wheel. What I'm really asking is does the California emissions package compromise its capabilities? For instance, if the California-specific computer programming further retards injection timing from Federal settings to lower NOx, one would expect the California trucks to run with higher EGT's than Federal (49 state) trucks. Does anyone know if this is the case?

Thanks again,

Rusty

I just pulled my window sticker from my CA. 01 eth. The window sticker doesn't show any differance in either HP or Tow #. It shows 245 HP/505lb with GCWR of 20,000 lbs w/3. 54 gears. I think it goes to 21,500 with 4. 10 gears. If you are still concerned, just put an EZ on. It really brings the ETH to life.
