Eric,, You can just leave that Box off :D.

The Dyno day,, If I miss every event but one this year, this will be the one I won't miss.

merrick,

Doesn't your truck weigh a tad more than Katmans?

Just a TAD. For the life of me I cannot recall what I was running in the 1/8mile after the Dyno Day.

On the street the thing that killed me was he could weave through traffic like none other,, Eric is a perfect candidate for a get away driver.

Turbo Lag,, a word Eric doesn't know about. My '40 w/18cm housing isn't the worlds fastest spooling turbo.

My truck weighed in at 7,520 pounds without all the junk (Computer, inverter, Jack in the Box fries, bubble gum wrappers, etc. etc. ) in the back seat.

BTW,, Get the update kit, TC and VB,,

You can't take it with you,, You can't open a can of whoop-as when you have a half as transmission.

Just got the 02 done........

Just a little over a year after the 01 and the update kit had all sorts of goodies that the first one didn't. I don't have any complaints about the 01. It's still going strong on a heavily loaded truck. The 02 has only been in a few days and I love it. What a world of difference. You made the right choice as far as vendors and to do the whole update. Even if you have to pay a little more to have someone do it you won't regret a second of it.

Bill doesn't sit on his laurels with a good product. They are constantly improving their product through extensive testing.

For what it's worth. . and this is my personal opinion and not an endorsement of or by TDR.....

curatchko,

I have never been as pleased with one modification as I have been with the DTT system.

Again, in my opinion and experience, it is by far the best overall component I've added to my truck.

Without it, more than half of what I spend on performance mods would be dissapearing before it hit the road.

Bill basically told me exactly the same thing, he also said just drive it till it die's and then do the job. He wasn't in a hurry to put his fingers in my wallet and I appreciated that. That's one of the reasons I trusted his advice regarding what components would be needed to assure that I wouldn't need to spend more in 6 months, 12 months, and so on... he was right on all of it.

No doubt he outweighs me, my weight with just me and 1/4 tank of fuel is 6500lbs. That day with John, the toolbox, the rest of our junk and full of fuel I have no doubt we were at least 7000 to 7200lbs.

I don't think I ever turned the box up past Level II if I recall correctly?

Merrick i don't remember the exact times but I think you were mid 9's in the 1/8th by the end of the night. And yes I hate lag..... ;) Although if I make it to dyno day I'm gonna put on the bigger exhaust housing to see if it will help out on the dyno regarding the peak power being off its range.

Looks like I need more essentials!! Air & Fuel!

Little more fuel, little more air...

Ok, I lied,, ALOT more Fuel, and ALOT more air

BTW, Even though you have larger than stock tires, I have four tires on the rear, and I'm 2wd.

But all differences aside,, that was one serious can of whoop-butt you opened up on me...

I would trade it ;) Sometimes it is better to start over :( I did - 2000 3500 4x4 ETC automatic with 56K miles on it, plus $2700 for a new 2002 3500 ETH/DEE :D One reason to trade for a 6 speed is you won't get a headache from reading/caring about why one transmission upgrade is better than another, let alone the COST!!! Good luck and I hope it all works out for you.

The auto transmission confounds me, I bought my 99 with the 5 speed, I just had it rebuilt 981. 00 parts and labor, it had 160k miles on it and the 3rd gear syncro went out. I am on my 3rd clutch, but the stock clutch lasted 60k miles, and the second clutch lasted 90-95k, I forget the exact mileage of install and destruction (I blew the center up out, and believe that to be the results of the pilot bearing disentegrating on me). 100k of those miles have been run with DDIII's and the TTPM on #3 setting. With this setup, I pulled trailers sometimes weighing in at 30k lbs during hay season, not quite sure how much my tractor weighed, but it's a 4010 industrial with a frontend loader..... not light by any means... .

What I can't understand is why even buy an auto? To pull heavy you have to invest serious money in them, to modify the engine you have to invest serious money in them, the only advantage you get is in drag racing.

I could not have said that better myself

1. Seattle rush hour traffic

2. I am friggin lazy

Your looking at a lost opportunity, (rush hour) with a 6 speed you just take turns using each leg on the clutch peddle and then you don't have to go to the gym for a leg workout ;) This also eliminates your second concern.

So as soon as I get home from work, I should throw in a few pushup and a few crunches and I got it coverd? Hhhhmmmm..... See transmission threads can be useful.

If you need anymore advise and coaching on diesel fitness let me know. :)

please don't tell me......

I should have bought a manual transmission... ..... easy to say, but some of us had no clue what potential we were tapping into before we got a Cummins under the hood. Heck, my old 302 Ford wouldn't even spin the wheels on wet pavement, so I never had to worry about trashing the driveline.

Or, like in my case, some of us had all of 1 truck to choose from when we purchased. Granted, I was in a unique situation, but this type of thing could happen.....

My $40,000 dollar vacation

The point is, some of us bought auto trannys for whatever reason, and somewhere along the way we found this site and now we are addicted to bombing (thanks TDR!) and need to beef it up. I am in that boat, and the last thing I want to hear is that I should have bought a stick cause auto trannys suck.

Not trying to bash anyone here, just explaining the other side of the fence.

Damon, nice vacation (ouch) :( It could of been much worse they might of only had a Ford or Chevy dealership in that town. Hey whats another $5000 for a transmission upgrade, it doesn't sound like your vacations are that much fun anyway :( so you can put all of the money you would spend in the future on vacations into bombing your truck. Good luck in the future.

Damon,

Not everyone "didn't have a choice. " I CHOSE to own an auto, as have both of my friends who own CTD's. After driving a stick for 2 years, I just want to put her in drive, and go... and go really, really fast when the need be. Hence, I own a CTD with a DTT transmission. I kill at least one ricer or Drof every time I go drive around town... . heck, the rice today actually gave me a thumbs up and wanted to go again after I took him by 4 lenghts... stupid turbo'ed POS. LOL.

Love my auto... will never own a CTD without a DTT transmission behind it. That's my $0. 0175 for what it's worth.

Josh

Same here. I traded in a perfectly good 2001. 5 HO with the 6 speed for my new '03 SO with the auto, knowing full well that DTT would be a requirement. So far, I don't regret it at all for my uses. The 6 speed was a great truck, but I just wanted something different.

part of the sacrifice of buying the Ram was trading in the old paid-off Ford AND my new V6 sports car - of course it had a 5 speed and I would not consider a sports car without one.

I've been racing dirt bikes for most of my life, and in any type of peformance vehicle I would only consider a manual transmission. But, I must admit that even if I had walked into the dealer and had the choice of auto/manual on the truck, I would have opted for the auto because I don't want to shift my truck all day long. Yep, this truck is now my commuter, the pocket rocket is gone and I miss the short throw 5 speed and slipping the clutch off the line... ... sacrifices, or in my case, those darn vacations :(

Anyway, once I found out what this truck will do with a little $$, I just can't resist BOMBing now, so I'll be joining the DTT or ATS club as soon as I get the balls to void my warranty completely. So make that a $45,000 vacation :D
