try callwave.com I haven't had any luck with it but others have, you have to get call forward when busy added to you line then add there 1-800 number, it will tell you on the screen when someone is calling and let you hear there message.

Call Waiting ID

Some phone companies are also offering Call Waiting ID now. I'm not sure if this will work with the dial-up connection. But you may be able to see the incoming number show up on the caller ID box while you're online, then be able to flash over.

Check out your local provider for DSL service.

High-speed internet, and you can still talk on the phone while surfing. It's a little more expen$ive than a "POTS" line, but might be the ticket for solving your problem.

catch a call

jim:

i just went over to the tigerdirect website. they have a device called "catch a call" under their modem section. it allows you to put the internet connection on hold to receive phone calls. cost=$44. 99. :)

I just tell people to call the cell if this is busy for a while.

I've heard of things that will let you pickup a call while on the net w/o dropping your net connection.

Try ZD net and do a search. I believe there is a free download somewhere.

High speed internet service is the way to go, but if it's not available or you don't want to spend the extra money, check to see if your phone company offers voice messaging. We have Qwest here in the Denver area. Voice messaging will take messages when you don't answer the phone like an answering machine, but it can also take messages while your line is busy. Cost is about $8 / month here. Quality is excellent, and you can access it from any phone. When you get off-line, just remember to check for messages that may have come in while you were on-line.

I've used Catch a Call from Tiger Direct for almost two years now, works great. You need to have call waiting. What happens is if you are on the net the catch a call module rings, you can pick up the call and stay connected to the net for 30 seconds, enough time to get rid of a telemarketer. I live to far out in the boonies, will never get cable. Sure beats paying for another line, call waiting is only $1/ mo in my area.

Phone Line

Jim - If my line is tied up for a while, I'm on TDR and they just call back. . If they don't like it ---Oh well!!!!!!:D

Denny
