I would be up for $100, probably Slinse and a couple other guys I can think of as well... ... Former PSD owners. I think the Ford guys rented Hale's Dyno for a day a while back, I went with Shane that day. He got a little nervous when 8000lb Crew cabs where getting on his dyno, but things held together.

I heard that the UAA dyno does not do HP/Torque and that its only for diagnosis. Don't know its true or not.....

I would give $100 to dyno on a real dyno in AK.

I'm back!! The streets are now officially safer from the threat of illicit narcotics!!

Good deal on the running this stuff down for us Brian. My experience having lived in Sacramento for four years was the local guy, Ken Imler (great guy/mechanic) used to hold two dyno events per year, spring and fall. You got three runs and a 1/4 mile or additional power run for $75 (plus a t-shirt and lunch). He had on average 30 trucks per event (about 15min per truck, that's a long day!). If we had a turnout of 20, that would be $1500 for the university, a nice little paycheck. I'm in for sure, and I'll see if I can drag anyone else from the island to join me (I know of one guy for sure, thinks his 6. 0 stroker is big dawg on campus, should be fun proving him wrong!).

One other club used to have a limited gathering on Friday night for a couple trucks to run and tune and then the actual competition was on Saturday. The friday night deal was mostly for gather and greet type stuff, and maybe a cooler or two full of libations, but a few guys ran they're trucks (and maybe shelled a turbo and couldn't compete the next day, you never know! RIP stocker Holset 35).

The "club" thing would be a good idea. And if it is a Mustang Dyno, it should load and give power/tq readouts, the key is how you set it up. I think Ken's is a mustang so I could get him on the horn to the folks at the university if they need help setting it up for power runs. Let me know what I need to do to help you guys out getting this thing going, I will do what I can from my remote outpost here in sunny Kodiak.

I would forget about hale's. Me and a few of my powerstroke buddies did a dyno day. He is a nice guy but the dyno is not accurate with our trucks. We were all suppose to get a cd of our dyno charts (part of the price we all payed) And he bailed on us and we never did get them. It's really not worth the money.

ok, no Hale's. Anyone get a chance to talk to the folks at the University? I hate to keep buggin' you guys on the mainland about this stuff so I'd be happy to make some phone calls. Unless you think it's better in person, it's up to yall. I'm just itchin' to get out and let er' run a little! Let me know.

:-laf Man, you sound like the kind of guy I wan't to get into trouble with!!! I was in the Guard a few years back and don't miss it too much. Too much. Check in when your in Fairbanks and we'll go **** off some Subaru driving tree huggers! There are alot of goons here in town that are in to bombing ctds. I buy more sh@t than my wife but what the heck, that's what marriage is all about, personal sacrifice and buying hot rod diesel parts!!! Ps- Sorry your in Kodiak. Your going to earn your measly paycheck. You shoulda got Sitka!

Actually, I'm a pilot (Officer), so the problem isn't the paycheck, it's not spending it all on Pier's website!! The wife is one of my biggest fans, of course AFTER she drove our truck 120mph home from my first dyno day (I had few too many)!! I think I like it here on the island. I'm holding out for the causeway to Homer they've been promising us they are going to build "next summer!" Wish I could do Sitka, but I'm flying the big shoebox right now (C130 for those not savy).

It does sound like we could get in some trouble. I added a 91' Toyota pickup to my stable this summer. Rice-burner, I know, but it runs like a bat outta hell, crawls like a pro and it looks like something out of a bad Rob Zombie video. Grandmothers see me coming and pull their children inside. I love being able to take a torch to a vehicle and just cut off the parts that aren't really "necessary" and not worry about the police pulling me over. Alaska IS cool!!

So, I have a little motivation for this dyno thing. I got a buddy on the island with one of those new, cute little 6L strokers. He's a got a few moderate mods, mostly compliments of Gale Banks, and thinks he's the big dawg on campus. He is taking the ferry off the island on 01 May 06 as he transfers to Juneau. Now, if we could get something going by then, I REALLY need to take this guy to school. He's been SO misinformed about REAL power that it's really a shame. So, anything I can do to help in this effort, lay it on me. Phone calls, email, snailmail, whatever. I'm here to help.

I'm talking with Kelly Smith with the UAA Automotive Department. I'll let everyone know how it pans out. I'm really talking it up in hopes he will go for it. I hope if this works out we get max participation.

Brian

Absolutely!! I would love to do it before the ferry prices go back up, but that won't be a limiting factor. First week/weekend in May would be most beneficial to the embarrasment of a certain stroker owner I know!! I need to take him down a peg or two before then though, maybe a truck tug-o-war...

naw, I think I'll be the GMC support vehicle. I'll be standing buy with the Car trailer. :p

That's so you can load your Dmax on it and I can give you a ride home right. :-laf

This is going to be a fun season at the track :D

I will have to remember to bring my waders for all the BS

On edit: I think all us AK Bombers should have a get together sometime in April (not the 15th and 16th though) or the first part of May. What do yall' think?

Aaarrrhhhhhhh!! Racing season, not fair, I need to buy a barge (when did they say that bridge to Homer was going to be finished??)

Beginning of May would be good for me, a dyno event in conjunction would be cool too!! (I know I'm being a pain in the ***, what can I do to help you guys on that project?) The sooner I get ferry tix the better. Plus, I might have to bribe someone to get leave.

Actually, I sent out a feeler to about 5 people at the college in the Automotive department. They kicked it around and replied:

"After consulting with my colleagues, we feel this is not in our best interests. We do not use the dyno in this fashion and did not purchase it for this type usage. So we must pass on this. " :(

So, yes, we're out of luck. Not that I'm surprised. Jeff at Advanced Diesel is our only hope, unless one of you guys is independently wealthy and is willing to pony up the $50,000 to buy a dyno! Oo.

What a shame. Jeff at Advance Diesel still doesn’t know what he is going to do yet. I wouldn’t expect to see anything from him this year either. I hear he did buy a pretty wicked race truck from Piers, but needs some work before it is ready to race and is already trying to sell it. Anyone need a cool toy?

On to more exciting prospects…………

The Palmer drag strip opens up on 14 May with a Mother’s Day Test-n-Tune and Hudson Memorial Race. You can T&T all day if you want which is what I usually do, or T&T half the day and run in the race after playing around. It is bracket racing, so the slow diesels have decent odds. You get to watch all the action from the pits non-the-less.

There are several of us that have been working on bombs all winter and are itching to go, so we will be there making smoke if anyone wants to come out and have some fun with us. http://www.akracewaypark.com/2006 schedule.htm

Just in case everyone has forgotten, here is a minder of how much fun we have, compliments of "Double J": http://cumminsforum.vidiac.com/video/05E435B3-A1CC-4707-89EE-CC1A4760F2A0.htm
