Hey Guys, While I already have an 98. 5 24v 4x4 Auto Equiped CTD. I have a Question about the Years and their differences.

My auto under light throttle, does not hold 1st at anything above 10-15mph.

The Stock 99 2wd CTD Dodge W/36k miles I test drove today held 1st gear under light throttle till about 20mph (2400rpm). And It seemed to know when to down shift at the right time when rounding a corner.

Mine always seems to need some extra push on the throttle to get to down shift,(Even before the DTT VB Mod)

My Friends 1998. 4 12v 4x4 is acts the same as mine, So i thought it was normal. Maybe it is, maybe it isnt? I dont Know.

Now I know about the RPM screw on the side of the VB and what is does.

Now for the Question;

Is there a TSB for 1st to 2nd shifts to hold 1st longer?.

Hey Bill,Shanti or Fred S, Do you guys know what I'm talking about?

Doug.

doug , who installed your VB ? its an adjustment of the TV cable away ... to a point . call Bill in the AM .

edit ... doug , i just read your sig , you have aDTT VB and a pressure lock ???? with the DTT VB you don't need the pressure lock . , that is more than likely the root of this problem, remove it asap.

What mopar-muscle said, plus we need to know the rpm for the shifts at both light throttle and WOT. Bill will need to know these as well. What is the line pressure? Your installer should know. Sounds like one or two adjustments and the:D begins.

I know hardly anything about transmissions but I have a question. How can the pressure lock affect upshifts from 1-2 when my understanding is the pressure lock only works when the PCM tells the transmission to lockup and that is in 3&4 gears. I need to know as I have a pressure lock and transmission mods and my 1st gear will hold until 18mph under lite throttle, I wish it would shift sooner under lite throttle, but under heavier throttle it feels good to not shift until 18-20 mph.

Doug, some early 98. 5's do shift early 1-2 under light throttle. It could be as easy as an adjustment, or some VB tuning.

I'd call Bill and ask his advice. More details are needed to know how your particular setup is right now, to determine what would need to be adjusted.

You could PM me directly if you like.

Hey Guys Thanks for the Replys.

Hey My Wife and I have an Oppointment with a Mortgage Banker this afternoon,So I can't look thru the Records I have on the Truck Right Now. But I will Later today and get back to you guys on the Line Pressures I recorded.

Mopar M:, I installed the DTT VB As Per Bills Instructions, Way easier than a Turbo350 or 400... .

Doug.

ron , i'm not really sure how the pressure lock works , but i do know that the DTT VB is designed not to need a pressure lock , so having it installed my be causing a problem that wouldn't exist idf it weren't in play .

as far as you light throttle late shift , its a valve body calibration thing . BD should be able to help ????

There are several things you can do to adjust your shift points to your liking. TPS adjustment, kickdown cable adjustment and there is an adjustment on the vb itself.

Page 3 of the vb instructions , give me a call and i will talk you through it, have a volt meter when you call.

Ron,

If the pressure lock is adjusted agressivley it can cause late shifts under light throttle. Simply put, it is not allowing the kickdown cable to return to the neutral positon. I have seen this lots of times.

Disconnect the pressure loc at the back of the transmission where its held in by a 7/16headed bolt on the overdrive unit, if the kickdown cable slides forward you know your pressure lock is preventing the kickdown cable from returning back to the neutral position.

The reason i suggest un bolting it this way is because it will not affect your adjustments if everything checks out ok with the pressure lock.

Thanks for the reply Bill. I think I can live with the late shift if towing under more throttle goes o. k. I will know more about the towing in a few weeks if evrything goes as planed.
