I started my truck yesterday morning and let it warm up a few minutes(2-3). It was about 30 degrees outside. I then drove off slowley. About a hundred yards or so I had to stop at a sign. When I tried to go again the engine just reved past 2500 rpms and didnt go anywhere. I thought it had slipped out of gear. I looked and it was still in drive. . I dropped it to 1st and the engine still reved up but the truck slowly started to more. I put it in park for a minute. checked my odometer, 35,000 miles. yikes, 1000 to spare. I put it back in drive and it slipped for another 50 yards, then started to feel like normal.

I brought it to Hazlewood Dodge In Kingwood. They said that they will set up an appointment next monday for me and road test it. I dont trust them, I think they are just going to delay until the warranty is out. Any advise as to where to go for good transmission warranty work around Houston?? Also , what do you guys think is going out. The clock is ticking on my warranty.

Sdalton,

As long as the stealer has paperwork showing that the trouble was reported to them DURING the warranty period, they are obligated to repair the trouble even if you are past the date/milage barrier.

This prevents them from blowing you off with the "Can't Duplicate Trouble" B. S until your warranty expires.

With these trucks you need to let it idle in neutral for a minute when it has been setting over night in the cold. When it is in neutral it lets the transmission fluid move through the transmission and get everything lubed up. I do this every morning and no problems 40K on mine. I am not saying there is not a problem with yours but this might be what was wrong. I would also do what the other two gentlemen have suggested just to cover your b*tt. Hope this helps. I also think that if this is the problem the dealer won't be able to duplicate the problem unless it sits in the cold over night and you are there when they start it in the morning to make sure they do everything you did when you had the problem. Might be a hassle but I would leave it over night and be there first thing in the morning with the tech. to duplicate the problem.

Check and double check youre fluid level in N on level ground after a once around the block without hitting park. Some of these are hard to read properly,it might just be low.

I would have to agree that the fluid level is low.

This happens to a lot of people and me too a few times.

When low on fluid you can do some major damage to your transmission very quickly. As the pump runs out of fluid, the cooler flow is lost. When you lose cooler flow, you lose your lubrication as well.

Check your fluid in Neutral as mentioned above!

When you let your truck warm up from now on drop it into Neutral and set the parking brake. With a stock transmission you have little to no flow in Park. Your transmission fluid will warm up better if it's circulating and you will also lubricate the bearings properly before rolling out dry.

Good luck.

EDIT: I'am no transmission guru but try this,

another good way to check the fluid level is to drive the truck about 8 miles so the transmission is good and warm then find level ground and set parking brake, chock the back wheels and put truck back in 1, then 2, then D, then R, then put in D and leave it there and check the fluid level, add as needed.

I agree with the check the fluid first ideas presented. I don't know a dealer to recommend. :( It is also a good idea to get a copy of all the dealings at the dealer. Unfortunately, most techs at the dealers are parts replacers at best and don't have a clue or a care when it comes to upgrades. Good Luck. If I can help let me know.

It did it again the next morning, just not as bad, the temp outside was a little warmer.

I will try the fluid level today, and let everyone know. If that's not the problem then I will take it to the dealer and keep all receipts.

Thanks for all the advise.

Been there too

I've noticed mine has done the same thing twice now, once on level ground, once on a slight incline so I put it in a bad incline last night with no troubles. You will notice a slight decrease in the fluid level from N to P. When you realy get tired of it inarush76 2 posts above can fix that problem for good with DTT stuff.
