I read an earlier post on the ATS exhaust manifold... I posted my question there, but no responses... .
I really wanna know how this manifold affected your EGTs/Boost #'s with each individual's different setup.
I checked ATS's site; they no longer have any info about it; I checked the JRE site, no real info. I didnt see it anywhere on the BD site.
BTW: if someone would be so kind as to email to me how much the manifold cost them, that would be extremely helpful.

thank you,
joe

joesoot, give Piers of BD Diesel Performance a call at: 1-800-887-5030 (he is currently running one on his HOT 12v), or Ted Jannetty of JRE (Jannetty Racing Enterprises) at: 1-203-753-RACE (I'm not sure if Ted is running one on his 12v Ram or not). I am unable to convey the information you request as I haven't installed my ATS exhaust manifold yet (TOO many projects, never enough time).

Price? SPENDY! (I believe list price is $460).

Joe... John has pointed ya in the right direction... . call piers(who i bought from) and he will give you the low down... As for the other questions... I did mine for looks, I was swaping the HX-40 on and didnt like the looks of the rusty stock exhaust manny and bought the ATS and sent to Jet-Hot along with my turbo housing... JB

Joe:

Your comments were directed at me. Because of other commitments, I'm not always able to answer questions that are e-mailed to me as soon as I'd like.

First, a picture of the manifold IS on the Jannetty Racing website... take a few minutes to scroll through Ted's web page and you will find it.

Second, I did not buy the manifold from JRE; instead I bought it directly from ATS whose office is in Salt Lake City, Utah. The last time I visited their website I did NOT see it. You will have to give them a call. I assure you they have it.

Third, according to ATS the manifold was primarily designed as a replacement for the stock manifold which they said was subject to cracking on modified engines. That may all be true, but whoever designed it certainly had performance on his or her mind. The manifold comes in three pieces. the outside ends are an interference fit into the center section. You must use ant-seize compound to join the sections together. Assembly went smoothly and without a hitch. I believe there is some expansion and contraction at the joints and this in turn prevents the manifold from cracking. My manifold shows no exhaust leakage anywhere.

Fourth, the manifold is NOT cheap. As I recall, it's in the low four's and the Jet Coating is in the low one's. After reading these prices, those who are inclined to change their shorts should do so now.

Fifth, the reason I jet-coated it was to prevent if from rusting. I just can't see spending that much money on a manifold and having it rust out. Its appearance nicely compliments the rest of the engine's appearance.

Sixth, I don't know why anyone would want to cover the manifold with a thermal blanket because it looks just fine the way it is. But that's a personal choice.

Seventh, I doubt it has any effect on egt's but it DOES have an effect on performance! As far a mileage is concerned, I didn't buy it for mileage. I've always enjoyed very good mileage with my truck (21/25) so mileage was never a consideration.

I hope I've done a better job this time around of answering the questions that were e-mailed to me shortly after I posted the thread. If not, let me know.

Hope my post didnt sound like an a$$... .
anyway, thank you for the info.
It sounds like its worth the money for my application; before i do any more fuel adding mods i just want to make sure the engine breathes, all range.

joe

BTW: my complaint wasnt directed at you but
at certain vendors' inability to simply share product information or make this info easily accessable. but i guess the TDR fills that void. Thank you to all who post their valuable information.

<font color=blue>If I recall the manifold should be available for under $400. I don't have one... yet. But eventually I will get one after seeing Mark Kitchell's cracked manifold #ad
Its not much more then a stock manifold I believe. I have an HX40 w/16cm&sup2; housing on its way I intend to get Jet Hot coated so if and when I buy the manifold I intend to do that as well.

Forrest:

I think I know where you're going with this because I've been the one who has questioned the wisdom of buying Ricksons BASED ON THEIR "COST SAVINGS". . you cannot recover the cost of the Ricksons so don't buy them for that reason. Buy them if you like the way they look. It's like the Horton fan in my truck... I'll NEVER recover the cost through improved mileage. So, my answer to you is buy the manifold if you want performance; don't buy it for any alleged "savings".

Kat: The ATS manifold is NOT like the stock manifold... the difference is like night and day. The stock manifold has a lot of 90 degree bends which do nothing for flow. Every turn on the ATS manifold has a soft radius to it. The difference is dramatic and adds up to higher RPM's... 500 in my case.

Joe: I take no offense at your comments. I'm sorry I took so long to reply. Please feel free to ask any more questions. You will love the manifold.

<font color=blue>Uh did I miss something? I never said they were similiar at all. I was just stating that the prices shouldn't be too far apart if you buy from the right person. I am guessing thats how you "Read" part of my post because thats the only thing I can think of that wasn't absolutly clear.

If ya have to replace the stock manifold, you might as well buy the ATS and spend a couple extra bucks. I'll buy it when I get around to it... ...

Just curious how much exactly does a stock manifiold run for? I know how much I can get an ATS for... ...

Just yesterday I got a price on said manifold from ATS. Well, not below 400 and not in the low 400's. Hoping to do a little better somewhere else.

EZ94, [REF. "Sixth"]: I elected to purchase the Hitco/Geno's Garage exhaust blanket to cover my rusted OE exhaust manifold. However, I fully intend to re-install it on my ATS manifold (if I can ever find the time to install. . the manifold), as I like the noise reduction it provides. #ad
Noise reduction aside, I would NOT re-install the blanket on the ATS manifold.

[REF. "Third"]: Even UNmodified engines are having problems with cracking OE exhaust manifolds (even ones that have not been drilled/tapped for a pyro. thermocouple).

Kat, I think you will find that both places mentioned in my previous post sell the ATS manifold at pretty close to retail (which I believe is $460. ). I ended up paying 10% less than that. Nothing monumental although, every little bit helps. #ad
If you find a better deal, by all means, let the membership know. #ad

Joe:
I didn't realize you had a 1st generation truck. Now that I know you do, I am at your disposal. I love those trucks!
Kat:
Yes, I did misunderstand you... but no more.
John:
The ATS manifold comes complete with bragging rights. It's so pretty I'm not sure you'll ever want tocover it up,noise notwithstanding.

My thoughts were that this manifold would affect boost/spool up being as its a more sweeping design as opposed to the blocky design of the stock manifold. But since i dont own one... yet... i can only speculate.
My other thought was that maybe EGTs would drop a little if the above information is fact what happens.
I could be totally wrong, but thats why im asking. I wanna do an injector swap, but before i do it, i want to the engine to breathe to the best of its ability.
I dont have a pyro yet which happens to be next on the list, but when i had Cummins flog it on the dyno, which was about a year ago with only the fuel pump mod all seemed to be quite healthy, they informed me. (The manager told me to get a pyro if im gonna do any pullin). You can see in my sig below what ive added since. My goal of 300rwhp is a bit high-falutin' and im hoping that i can get there without using propane or getting internal. Guess only time will tell.

thanks all,
joe

Do the ATS manifolds come with a pyro tap?Sure hate to have to drill and tap one of those expensive things, could cause it to crack later.

No, they no longer drill and tap them for a pyro, but they do have a raised, reinforced boss area for just that purpose. If enough people are interested I'll get a good price together.

<font color=blue>I would possibly be interested, but it would have to be after Oct 20th for me. HX40 took a bite out of my wallet already.

illflem... I was also concerned about that as I'm sure that is why my OE manifold cracked. After drilling the ATS manifold I was no longer concerned about cracking being a factor. The boss area Piers mention is at least 1/2" thick, maybe more... Arlan
