I hate even asking about this, but I don't know where else to begin my search. A neighbor is wanting to help his OLD '91 phurd 7. 3 NON-Turbo. All he is really wanting is a little more umph when towing his little goosenecks horse trailers. He is not wanting a powerhouse (who can blame him with that truck). But I told him I would start looking around what his options may be, and this to me is the most logical place. So my questions are, what can be done, and where to go to find those things?

TIA

I'd suggest cranking up the pump a little, bit... . but I hate to think what his EGT's will climb to without a little forced induction.....

best bet is a turbo... you can find turbo setups on ebay pretty cheap... I think I also saw one for sale on fordtrucks.com

spend $1000-1500 for a turbo setup and turn up the fuel, and it'll feel like a totally different truck!

I MIGHT know someone w/ a setup for one of those engines... I'll have to ask next time I see him.

Test drove a '92 Ford 7. 3L with Banks Sidewinder... WOW!!! What a ride for only adding a turbo! I think the compression ratio in that engine is 19. 5 or 21. 5 - can't remember. Pretty high for a diesel, then adding the turbo!!!

My boss had a 93 NA that'd out run an turbo'd engine anyday. Not sure what all he did to it. We just got done swapping a NA 7. 3 into a 94 w/ the factory ATS turbo. This truck made the other ford we had today (97 w/ a chip and exhaust) work for it in a race. we raced 3 times. the 94 had the edge til about 30-40 mph and then the 97 would walk away from it. I wasn't to impressed with the 97, felt like my truck could out run it. That and it was a canuck truck.

First i would turn the pump up 1/8 turn. Then set the transfer pump pressure to 130 psi. Set light load advance {cam plate on side of pump}to stop rocker motion @3/4 throttle and flatten out advance curve. Set dynamic timing to 6. 5 degrees@2000rpm. If you want to go inside of pump to make adjustments pm me for info. Have a merry xmas :)
