Rip Rook Exhaust and BioDiesel B20

What is the difference between the H1E and the H1C? They both came off an L-10 engine, and they look just alike so whats the difference?

Russell

H1C is a stock 89-94 dodge cummins turbo. Seems alittle small for a L-10 engine?

The H1C is a little less effiecient than a HX35 and shares many parts.

H1 Turbo

I'm not as familiar with that turbo as I am with others. I had believed it was the predecessor to the HX35, used on the first gens as mentioned above.

The turbo I associate with the L10 motor is the H2 Holset. Most frequently we see the H2E version. The suffix usually denotes a particular version of the turbo, possibly having a different turbine wheel or compresser configuration.

Well, I have one from a 8. 3C rated at 238hp. it has 4" intake and exhaust outlet. the inside diameter of the compressor housing is about 2 1/4" and the ID of the exhaust outlet is about 2 5/8". I'm sure it will spool real fast with the 26cm2 housing on the exhaust.

Ok well I need to correct myself, I got to lookin at both of them this morning and they are both H2's not H1's. But I still pose the question what is the difference and which one is better, and finally which one is better than the HX35?

Russell

Which one is better is going to depend on what you intend to do with it. Obviously the H2 is larger since it's intended for a 10 liter motor. I seriously doubt your going to want to use the H2 on your truck. They are SLOW!

Its only slow if you have the wrong exhaust housing. I am going to be trying some fun stuff here pretty soon with a HT3B. So we will see.

chrleb1 ... I think THE option for the 0 plate riding a 215 pump / 370 injectors crowd is conversion to the dark side ... twins.

Pouring thru posts on large singles seems to result in 1 thing ... sloooow on the bottom to hold that much fuel. Couple altitude & towing ... worse. The ball bearing turbo may give some releif ... will be fun to test.

Two Monicas IS better than one. ;)

Forrest, couldn't agree with you more. Made that decision over three years ago and never have second guessed it.

As you know, Pius had mated big compressors with smaller turbines. The are interesting no doubt. But I've seen too many blow under high load (not nec Pius's products). I don't see it as a option for twins. Sorry boys, I studied under Pius and learned my stuff.

Forrest and HVAC you are both right on. I have an H2E with a 14cm wastegated housing and it is still slow to spool because of the weight of the internals, bigger isn't always better. The twins are almost here, maybe one or two weeks.

is it possible though to take the innards of an HX and just use the compressor of the H2? Maybe a dumb question but one worth asking I think

You can mix and match onestack. But then your not talking about a H2 any longer, you would then have a hybrid. Pius used to fix HX40 turbine housings to the H2 compressor. Worked pretty good as you got more air and the smaller turbine would help spool up. Piers is doing something like this with his HX50 I believe.

Twin Turbos, it's futile to resist! :-laf :-laf

The turbo I have is a Pius H2E with the HX40 14cm wastegated housing on it. I really like the turbo, but it is slow to spool and caused me smoke concerns here in smog city.

HVAC, when you said that you ran the 3 smallest housings, what turbo where you referring to?

Then you said it depends on the housing...

Just reread the last part of the first page.

Oh ok, well i wasn't talking about a H2, i am going to be running an HT3B, these are off and 855 or N14 cummins. Usually this is the secondary turbo for the twins setup.
