Removing the plate entirely can cause damage. The piece that runs up the plate's contours can end up in places it's not supposed to go. Easiest thing to do is slide the stock plate forward some. That will give more travel which equals more fuel. If that doesn't do it for you, then a new plate may be the answer. The 3K kit allows more rpm's, but without the fuel, you haven't gained anything. Do a search on plates, 10, 5, etc. and you can find tons of info.

You are better off grinding your plate flat than taking it out if your looking for max power on the cheap. But your question doesn't really state what your objective is

I haven't seen damage to my brother's truck and the plate has been dangling from the rearview mirror for about 60,000 miles now. Take it out and prepare for takeoff!!! Mite cause grief in the trans (auto) or slip clutch (manual).

 obviously not recommended unless you really know what you are doing. Perfect scenario to me... someone takes that plate out, punches it, puts too much fuel into their motor and they have melted pistons. Too high EGTs. Keep at least some plate in so you are limiting your fuel at WOT.
