Ban on RV home storage in San Jose

slide in camper questions

I have a 82 24' TT Resort by Fleetwood that I've had for two years now, this is my first camper and I have no idea how to clean the fresh water tank:( What do you guys do to sanitize your fresh water holding tank and lines? I've herd of some type of tablets you put in it or some thing but haven't done anything to mine since I bought it. (We just bring drinking water ) It would be nice not to have to bring along 4 extra gallons of water if I can get the tank cleaned and sanitized. :) Not sure if the past owner ever sanitized the tank or not but it doesn't smell bad or anything, but I don't trust drinking the water yet.

Help please:p

Camping World has several products that work. Can't say I prefer one in particular. Maybe someone can tell which product is best. I cannot remember the one I used before but it worked great. :)

A mild bleach solution will work, but I don't know what the formula is. If you don't get a response here, try irv2.com.

What I do is put a 1/2 cup of bleach in the tank, fill it and let it sit a day or two. Drain it and then fill it with clean water. My wife and I still use bottled water for drinking, coffee ect> We just dont trust ithe normal RV parks

I believe the formula to be something in the are of 1/4 cup bleach to 10 gals of water. Fill it up full and run each faucet to get the solution to each area. Flush it out well 2 or 3 times. This method has worked for me.

Thanks guys, going to try the bleach tomorrow going camping the end of May so I've got to get everything straitend out.

The bleach made a big difference when I did mine. Make sure you do like Dkev mentioned and run the faucets until you get a slight bleach smell to make sure you get it through the system. Don't forget about the hot side so you sanitize the H2O heater as well. Drive around a bit to mix it up and let it set overnight. It should make a bit difference.

If you want to get rid of the bleach smell after your tank is cleaned out just mix a small box of baking soda in water and pour that into your tank. Fill the tank, run it into the faucets, let it stand a while, flush again and most of the bleach smell and taste will be gone.

The bleach method is what I do. One cup for 40 gal. This is good for storage also. Just drain and refill prior to trip.

We have always used the tank water for drinking. It's nice to use a portable filter on the hose. Camping WORLD has a big selection.

That's a good idea

I'll have to try and find one of those filters to put on the hose, and try the baking soda too.

Thanks

Just checked the Mexican bleach bottle we keep in the motorhome. It says about 1 teaspoon to 40 gals. Doesn't take much.
