More GCVWR Wonder Why?

I spent part of the afternoon tracing wires on my truck. It has the factory trailer wiring. What I'm trying to find is where can I tap into the parking light circut the easiest to hook up the marker lights on my camper? I've found out that wire for the trailer lights is a black/orange stripe. This wire is suppose to come into the power distrubution box and is part of the relay in there. Is this my best chance or is there an easier spot/way?

Correct me if I am wrong, but your tail lights is engerized any time that your park lights are on. Used your Tail Light circuit. Besides, if you have the OEM "Tow Package", the tail light circuit at the plug comes through a seperate relay. This prevents your added marker lights from "loading down" you parking light circuit. The tail light circuit is available @ pin 5 (I belive... going on memory) of your Trailer plug.

I had thought about this but have already got the wiring in from the front of the box to unnder the hood. A relayed system would definately be good. I just thought that I could tap into it under the hood somewhere? seems like dodge has kept all there wiring pretty well packaged.

Don't know about your '97, but our '96 had a recall as they had a bad habit of melting headlight switches due to the increased load of the trailer lights. I believe they retrofit the relay into the trailer wiring harness (yes, ours had the trailer towing package). I would hesitate to load the headlight switch with the trailer lights - I'd use a relay. Why not just use the existing trailer wiring since you have the towing package? I just tapped into the factory harness back near the rear bumper and soldered 10 gauge wiring up to my new 7-pin plug I mounted in the wall of the bed for my 5ver.

So here's what i did, I stayed under the hood. cracked open the power distributtion center and tracked down the black/orange lead coming out of the trailer relay (this is the light circut) I managed to splice into it at the connector with a lead that I had a fuse connected to. And put every thing back as per norm. Now I'm getting marker lights through the trailer relay and protection from an independent fuse. Thanks for all the input. :)
