Camper tie down brackets

So my 03 Laramie has these in all 4 corners. Not sure if it's stock with heavy duty package or what. My canopy will never leave my truck so obviously no use for them. So my question is has anyone here played with them to create a rack above the canopy by having angle tubes run up the side ? Or am I better placing them in the "pay it forward" or sell. Just curious if they would weight of a rack then small stuff for camping/towing equipment then of course my fat butt to climp up there.
