Weight Dist. Hitch Question

Anyone ever go crabbing?

I have a 9. 5' camper on my '99 2500 and I pull a trailer. I was hoping to get some advice on mirrors for the truck. I found some plastic mirror extensions that slide over the existing mirrors. These things seem cheap, the mirrors are small and don't allow you to see much. Any suggestions?

Well, the ultimate solution would be the $400 power/heated telescoping mirrors. But since I can't afford them I use the Cipa Universal mirrors that attach with a strap and hooks to the stock mirror housing.

I've towed our trailer for about 8000 miles with them and I am satisfied with them. However, I do wish the right side mirror could be a little bigger. The vibration is barely noticable and does not interfere with their funtionality.

Summit Racing has the Bestop extendable towing mirrors, PN BST-73622-01 for the heated/ elec to fit my 99, for just over 3 bills and has free shipping. Best price I found so far. Only bad part is they are backordered until the end of the month.

thanks guys

Thanks for the input! I looked at the suggestions and am afraid I may have to justify going the route of the Bestops. Hey Vic, thanks for the tip, how rugged are these things?

If you're considering the electrically adjustable, heated, electrically extendable and retractable towing mirrors, I would highly recommend the PowerVisions for your consideration. Ours are great. Check them out here.

I was checking out a pair of the Bestops at a campground last summer and they seemed every bit as stable as the OEM mirrors I have now, and the owner said he didn't get noticable vibration. Summit Racing is so liberal with the return policy I am not worried about taking a gamble on them. I heard at one time they were the same as the Lucix and CIPA extendable mirrors, but I haven't compared them side by side to verify this.

I have a set of powervisions on the 97 and RustyJC is right - they are great mirrors. Rock solid too. But they were about 50% more $$$ and the mirror surface on the Bestops is more square where the powervision is more of a rectangle. I do think the powervisions are great mirrors if you want to spend that $$$.

I think Bestop has a site that has much better info on the mirrors then the Summit site: http://www.bestop.com/mirrors/index.shtml

I'll post more details when I get them.

So you've dealt with Summit before and they're reliable?

I've had the Bestops for about 8 months and 20000 miles and still like them. I have 5 miles of wash-boarded gravel road to get home and you couldn't tell a chevy from a ford in them on that road because of the shake, but they work well on any decent road, a bit of shake on rough pavement but still usable. They definitely vibrate more than the factory mirrors. If you are short you may have a problem getting the passenger mirror in far enough, my wife is 5'8" and turns it fully in and still has to run the seat back a bit more than she likes. I'm 6'3" and run the seat all the way back and have plenty of travel to set the mirror where I need it. I thought the fit and finish was a little "cheaper" than the factory but still not to bad.

That's a lot of ching$$$$

Man those Powervisions look sweet, but good ### that is a lot of money for mirrors! Maybe I'll just hang my wife's make-up mirror out the window when I need a peek! Thanks guys.

Yes, I've gotten quite a few things from Summit, and even ended up returning a few, and have always had very good service.
