Bob, last year we stayed at Custer State Park. Was about 16 mi from Rushmore. Bout $10 bucks a night, no powere/electric. Bust was peasceful and serene. But there is more to see in the area than Rushmore. (Don't pay the money to see Crazy Horse monument, was a rip off) Will be out there again this year and planning on checking out the National Forest Campgrounds.

Bob, there's a really cool road thru a Nat'l forest by Rushmore, with tunnels and tight rocks. I came around a curve and cars were stopped and I thought it was the end of the road . Then I saw cars were taking turns from both sides, going between two huge boulders on either side of the road. When you go thru one of the tunnels, you look straight at the Rushmore faces. I can't remember the name of the road but some locals should be able to get you there. Craig
