Towing question

First Long Pull

Hey everybody - has anyone used Camping World for hitch install? I have a new 600 and a Reese slider that I need installed and Marshall's RV in Canton Tx, who I really like, can't do it for about 4 weeks. Can anyone chime in with experiences on a hitch, wiring and brake controller install from CW?

Thanks in advance

Fritz

04. 5 flame red QCSB 2WD 600 48RE, laramie, loaded.

Had bed rails put in, Reese 16K fiver hitch with prodigy controller

serveral years ago. No problems yet. They stand behind their installations for as long as you have your vehicle or trailer.

I just took my fiver back for a problem with a slide awning topper attachment they installed serveral years ago. They fixed it without any questions.

This was the Camping World Store in Kissimmee, Fl.

Whoever you have do the installation, make sure they understand all the details of installing a hitch on a 3rd gen frame. If you are handy with tools, you can do it yourself.

The Camping World in Valencia CA stated that they drill through the frame and would void the warrentee on a Reese hitch. I, in turn, had a 'no drill' Pullrite installed.

Reese Hitch

I tried to get my Reese hitch tansferred to my new Dodge and everybody was going to drill the frame. One place was going to weld. I understand that, while Reese has engineered the brackets for a Dodge installation of Reese hitches, that it is not in production yet.

I went with a Pullrite hitch. I love it!!! Cost $2000 installed and there was no drilling or welding of the frame.

Thanks for the replies! I know that DC frowns on drilling through the frame, and there are lots of threads talking about drilling the sides and not the top or bottom.

I already have the Reese slider, and I know it requires some drilling for mounting. Has anyone out there with a 3G had or heard of any frame failures resulting from 5th wheel hitch mounts? I would be interested to know. If I manage to get the frame to crack towing my 10K Mobile Scout with a properly installed hitch I would be surprised.

Thanks as always

Fritz

Drilling is allowed, if done properly, and Reese has a kit for the 3rd gen Dodges. My only caution it to make sure they know what they are doing.

CW did my brake controller & 5th wheel hitch in the 95. Great install. One of the user tests is assembly & disassembly, i. e. pulling out the pins. Worked perfectly. As those of us know that have done it, it takes a lot of careful alignment. They came thru with flying colors.

If you are thinking about Camping World in Denton, TX, yes, they do a good job. I've had Reese 5th wheel hitches installed on my '97 and '00 trucks by them without any problems. I don't have a 5th wheel hitch on my '03. If I wanted one on the '03, I wouldn't hesitate to take it to them.
