Hello,

Does having the head off make changing the cam any easier?

What diameter dowels do I need for holding up the lifters?

The reason I ask is that I am going to port the head and if the cam change is any easier with the head off I am going to replace it then instead of later.

Thanks,

Kent

It might make it a little easier but not by much IMO.

Its a lot easier if the motor is out and upside down :)

Curious ??

Why are you wanting to change the cam ??

Is there a problem with yours or are you installing a modified version ??

Thanks, Dick S.

having the head off would make it a little less time consuming. it is not that bad of a job. you need 1/2'' dow rod. you need to cut a slot in and taper the end. then bag them in the lifter. you will also need some 2'' thin wall pipe and cut about a inch out of it so the lifters will fall into it. get your self some cable and some small screw in eyes and cut some small pieces of dow your going to have to pull the lifters in through the cam hole. what helped me i have a bore scope so i could see the lifter position to pull it up through the bore. if you have any other ? pm me before you do it and i can talk you through it . its not a big deal just need a little time to do it

Thanks for the info guys,

I decided to change the camshaft when I take the head off for porting. There was one question as to why I am changing the camshaft, the reason is to lower EGT's.
