Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Camshaft gear removal

What's the best way to remove the camshaft gear from the shaft? Heat from a hot air gun or what?

Press it off cold.



To install heat it to 300 to 325 degrees ( toaster oven works fine)

DO I need a hydraulic press or can I use a heavy duty gear puller?

I used a hydraulic press.



I have not used a gear puller for cam gear removal, maybe someone else has and will post the results.

I just did the cam in my truck and the gear was on there pretty good. Would recommend finding a shop or someone with a press.
