Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Camshaft position sensor

I currently have a thread under "911"- 2000 will not fire. While I am looking at replacing the VP, do I/should I replace the CPS? Gentleman from issue 47 stated that he replaced his at the same times as the VP,a nd it only takes a few minutes. Sounds like some cheap preventitive maintainence to me, although I am not looking to spend mre money than necessary.

If you're not getting codes indicating that it's bad, i wouldn't bother. Although it's not easy to get at when the vp44 is on. Not sure on the cost of a sensor but if it's cheap enough you could do it. It may seem impossible to do once the vp in on!!! Good luck

I found the best way to change the cs was to let my 11 year old daughter position it and plug it in. Small hands. You can get to the fastener from the bottom. Whether or not to do it while the IP is out is up to you. Your into the project for about $1100 already. Might as well. (I miss spell check)

Does the 2k use the cam sensor or crank sensor?. 99 has a cam sensor but it is used for diagnostics only and has no engine operation. The moral of the story I guess is if you use a crank sensor I would save the money on the cam sensor.
