Anyone out there have experience with a Can-Back canvas truck top? Looks interesting but wondering about durability and how they would hold up on a diesel truck. Haven't met/talked with any owners, so any input would be appreciated.
I had one on my 97 Tacoma 4x4 and loved it. It was incredibly stout with the roof rack. There was more than one time that I had 500lbs plus up there and there was no bowing at all. The canvas was pretty thick and the fact you can roll up the sides I thought was really trick. I only had it for a couple of months before I sold the truck so I can not say how it held up for the long run but I wouldn't hesitate to buy another based on my limited impressions Hope that helps--Steve
Steve; Thanks for the reply. Were there any problems with doing highway speeds? What about the bed staying dry? Rattles? How susceptible is it to break into? Thanks again. Steve W.
I never had any problems with it on the highway as long as the sides were down. With the sides rolled up there seemed to be a lot of wind any time I went over 60 that made its way back there. I can not remember anytime that I had any type of leakage due to rain but to be honest I never really paid that much attention as to that. The way the top comes together though I really doubt you would get much if any as it did fit together really well. Now, if someone wants to get into it they will as there was no way to actually lock the sides or the back on mine, although they told me they were looking into a way to lock them. The Sunbrella fabric (I think thats what its called) is really hd but I don't think it would stop someone with a knife. I mainly bought mine as I wanted a cap so I could haul my canoe with the Tacoma but I really didn't want to limit access to the bed, and it served that purpose great. When I get another small p/u or a 4runner I will definatley buy another
