After changing my lift pump, the check engine light came on and it is 'P0216. ' According to my Quick Check II scanner, it has something to do with 'low fuel pressure. ' The lift pump now reads 15 #PSI @ idle, but when I first started the engine it only read 5 #PSI 'till it ran a few seconds.

The scanner shows it is an 'inactive code' and is no longer being actively set, just being stored. I tried disconnecting the batteries over night but it's still there.

I read that I can remove the air box to get to and unplug the ECM and PCM for a few seconds and that will clear the code.

If true, do I disconnect the batteries first or not? Thanks,

Bob

The following is copied from an earlier post. I haven't tried this, but I have been assured it works. I don't think you have to disconnect the battery cable.

The best way to clear the codes before going to the dealer is:

1) remove airbox

2) Pull the three plugs behind it on firewall. This will clear all codes right away.

3) re install airbox after plugging in plugs.....

This is a sure fire way to clear all codes in the ECM and PCM.

Uhhhhh, while I readily admit not being the sharpest tool in the shed I would venture a guess that this code is one you do not want to clear. Go talk to Cummins about it. It is NOT related to the lift pump but rather the INJECTION pump. There is nothing in the system looking at supply pressure to the injection pump, but the injection pump does monitor itself and report back to the ECM.

BTW, you are going to clear Dodge codes by unplugging the PCM (behind the airbox) but ECM memory is a whole new ballgame... ... ... ... ...
