Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Can I modify anything with an ODBII scan tool ?

I bought a OTC Pathfinder ODBII scan tool with all the software, connectors etc.

I was wondering if there is any way I can change anything in the ECM settings that will give me a little extra HP ?

Since Superchips programmer connects to ODBII port, I figure I might get same results with a scanner.

It's got to be a way to make it 2 way communications with ECM, if I can send input to erase codes, I should be able to send more variables.

Is this the same scanner that Chrysler uses when you take your rig into their shop? If so, how much did you have to put out for such a tool? Inquiring minds like mine wanna know! :)

Long of the short is NO. The ECM can only be accessed and in turn programmed by a tech who has a DRBIII reader and controller with an Insite connection which together can cost upwards of 30 grand. However There are selectable features that can be enabled with the DRB like High Idle. There are no Horsepower increases that can be changed. That is why Marco has been working on the CaTcHeR project you hear so much about. He has been hacking and decoding the ECM's Programming language for what 3 or 4 years now and has finally been able to do so. Pretty much a wickedly compressed post but I hope the Gist is somewhat clear~ish
