Hello (again) gents,
Have a 2001, auto trans, 4X4 long bed.
I am changing out the fuel sender and pick up module inside the tank.
Went to Dodge, told them I wanted the NON in tank lift pump. Parts guy orders, and I receive it.
Yesterday I dropped the fuel tank. Opened the box with the new module in it, and it has the little pump on the bottom.

Just recently installed the FASS DDRP lift pump. Have been running bio-diesel, and when I removed the old module, I could see all the crud, in the screen and feel that sticky feeling on the plastic module.

Went back to Dodge parts guy and asked if the module still comes just plain, sender and pick up tube only. After punching buttons on computer, he said this is all that's available now.

I looked on the plug, that's attached to the truck. It does have all 4 wires. Old module seems to just have 2, for the sending unit.
Wire colors on truck side plug are :
2 wires are black
1 wire is green with a black stripe
1 wire is blue with a white stripe

My question : Can I go ahead and use this "upgraded" module with the pump in it, or will that mess up something ? Can this set up be use IN CONJUCTION WITH my FAS DDRP lift pump ?
If I start messing with something in the module, I just bought it.
Seems just taking the suction line off the pump, there is more to it than that.
Pick up line must go all the way to the bottom of the tank.

Currently it is Saturday August 20th. Next Thursday, August 25, we are (suppose) to be taking off for vacation, with travel trailer.

Currently, truck is out in the street with no fuel tank.

I know someone has the answer to this question.
Can't rely on Dodge parts people or mechanics, as they can't think outside the box !

Will be checking back soon. Thanks for all your help.

Peter

The wiring is in the harness from under the can to the tankbut not to anywhere from there.

The easiest way is to return the module you have and exchange it for the retrofit kit

If installed properly you can still run it throuh your existing pp

Umm, unless something has changed, you CAN (its expensive to canabalize the new module, but..... ) pull the fuel level sending unit off the old unit and replace it with the one off the new one... . should just be two wires and two screws, and look something like this (this unit is for a '98 12valve, and I'm holding it upside down):

My experence with BioDiesel led to the same problem as yours, CRAP in the tank, filter and lift pump. Mine was commercial Bio and I wound up with a algea comtamination. . NOT gonna do that again. IMHO

Bio fuel is the devil.

Funny, I've been touting that line since 2005. Nothing's changed.

First stop using the bio, second, bring plenty of extra fuel filters with you on your trip. I hope you have a fuel pressure gauge.

Time's short, do what you gotta do. If all you needed was the sending unit, and don't have time to get it working, then drive 200 miles, fuel up, and calculate your mileage. You should have a 35 gallon tank. Figure your cruising range and drive by the odometer until you can get a replacement.
