I bought a 2006 Dodge ram Quad cab today in Jacksonville FL. and drove it back to Atlanta. About half way home the check engine light came on and I lost power, steep hills would slow me down to a crawl. I think it went into "limp" mode. I think it was stuck in 2nd gear. I also noticed that I can't hear my turbo spooling up anymore. I stop at the autozone and let them scan it and it came back with two codes.

P2509

P0299

But the scan tool would not define them. Any help is greatly appreicated. thanks

You'd be amazed what a simple Google search will dig up for you... ;)

P2509

that relates to the engine control module. It's called Powerdown Data Lost Error. It's no big deal, usually a low battery sets it. Also, if you leave the key in the run position without the engine running, that'll do it too.

P0299 is a turbo underboost code several different possible causes - but certainly could cause loss of power...

p2509 is ECM/PCM data loss. p0299 is low boost. make shure you dont have a boost leak somewhere. check all your hoses, intercooler, etc. does the truck have a bigger turbo on it?

No, it is a stock turbo. Could the wastegate be stuck open? If so, how can you tell? I pulled the map sensor and checked it out, but honsetly wouldn't know if it was bad  I have to do something, because it is almost undriveable in its current state.

So the P2509 code isn't really a big deal? Will it go away itself? This truck has been sitting in a parking lot for well over a month, so I am pretty sure the battery was dead before I picked it up.

The underboost code is more than likely from the communication error and loss of fueling. Clear the codes and see if that makes a difference in how it runs and reacts.

If you keep getting the codes its probably a bad harness, bad ECU, or the truck has been in water. Hope it is something simple. ;)

If you're under 36,000 miles, you've got a lot of warranty left time-wise. Your next question might be to ask for a recommendation for a dealer near you.

Nope, I'm at 42K for mileage. I was checking things under the hood and found that the last exhaust hole on the end ( the one closet to the firewall) Was missing a bolt. Well, with one bolt missing the metal gasket has fell over and block that exhaust port. Could this cause low boost? All the pipes and fitting look good.

I went to the dealer this morning and purchased a new exhaust gasket and a new exhaust bolt ( $12 ) Replaced the gasket, and by the way it was totally blocking the exhaust from that port. Put it all back together and test drove it. Check engine light went out and it drives like new. I'll have to put a few more miles on it before I am a believer, from what I understand by researching this forum this is a very spratic problem cause by the wind just blowing wrong
