I'M RUNNING A STRAIGHT PIPE. HOW WILL THIS EFFECT THE TURBO? I WAS TOLD IT WOULD BURN IT OUT BY MY LOCAL DOGDE NUT. (I MEAN DEALER. ) DOES ANYONE KNOW??

P. S- THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP ON ALL MY CRAZY QUESTIONS! I'M A LITTLE NEW AT THIS.

Got One And Keepin It

I got a 5" from the turbo back and had it for 17062 miles with no engine troubles. Although the neighbors have troubles sleeping!LOL

Sraight pipe it and tell them to !@#$ OFF and to get off the high horse.

Ask the dealer so what about factory equipment coming with straight pipes. Case Construction Equipment runs some machines with straight pipes.

Half of the BIG RIGS I see and hear on the 101 don't run mufflers. They always sound sooooo goooood! If anything, I would think that it would be better for it because of no back pressure.  Chris

A straight pipe won't burn out your turbo.

My exhaust exits about 3" behind the QC doors with dual 3" pips and 12" 3. 5" Chrome tips. If the lack of backpressure would ruin a turbo, mine would have bit the dust a LONG time ago.

OVERBOOST Will not "burn-out" a turbo, but would have the compressor side, and exhaust side "parting ways"

aka, "Huff a turbo" and that is really bad. See here Huffed turbo hall of fame

Also, shutting down with HIGH EGT will have your turbo writing out it's "last will and testimony" and will be handing it to you before ya know it.

Three gauges for best turbo performance and life.

Two pyrometers (Can be on the same gauge with a switch), one before turbo (pre-turbo) and one after turbo (post-turbo) and a boost gauge in the intake plenum of your Cummins.

Hope this helps ya get the drift on turbo performance.

P. S. If you have an HX-35 (I have one on my truck) at 38 pounds of boost the air coming out of the turbo is 400*.

please do yourself a favor tear out all the factory exhaust S(&**^& do your duals with as big as you can fit in or afford and you will be a very happy camper I have dual 4''stacks with only the stock resinator ahead of them, the stock down pipe on the turbo,it sounds and looks so cool I can't go anywhere without turning heads. the only regret I have is I should have ran a 4'' down pipe and 2- 5'' stacks without resinator I think it would have a better tone, anyhow the exhaust mods do have an impact on performance aswell as enjoyment best of luck with your project and happy new year

Okay, I've hesitated to ask, so's I don't look too stupid... MCummings, you've split your exhaust out, but they run on the same side. I'm really interested in splitting the exhaust, but would like to have it run out each side. Is there too much undercarriage hardware to do that? Or would a single be the better way to go?

I will be going for duals pretty soon.

The fuel tank IS in the way, BUT, only if you decide to split the exhuast pipes there.

I will be going underneath the rear of my transmission with my 3" pipes. (right behind the U-joint on the transmission)

I also have two 3"- 4" adaptors, and two 4"- 5" adaptors,, And I have on backorder,, six feet long, 5" chrome stacks.

The pipes will run on the outside of the frame rails on both sides of the truck.

Hope this helps,

If you look at this pic #ad
, you can see the transmission mount, and the exhaust mount that is connected to the transmission mount.

The pipe on the right will do a 90* turn right after the "Y" adaptor pipe, the other pipe will run out where it does now, but it will turn into 5" pipe right after the "Y" and the pipe on the right(that will go under the transmission) will also go to 5" as soon as it gets outside of the frame rail.

YooHoo.

Thanks Merrick.

There's an exhaust guy in town who does rad work. I'm dying to have that kind of set up on mine. I'm taking your tips with me and see what he can do.
