Hello All,

Is there a drain plug on the stock torque converter on my 95 Ram like Ford's have? Or must we be content to only change a small percentage of the oil by pulling the pan?

Thanks,

Blake

Drain the fluid overnight (with the filter removed), you'll get 10 out of the 15 quarts.

Edit:

8 out of the 13 quarts for early trucks with the shallow pan.

When I change my trans oil, I take the rubber line off going into the oil cooler, & aim it into a 5 gal plastic bucket. I have someone start the engine, place shifter in "N", and let it pump the fluid into the bucket. When it quits flowing, have them shut off the engine. Most of the fluid is slung out of the converter this way. Then, I drop the pan, & let it drip drain all night, replace the filter, & refill.

I would be careful in doing that with an auto. When it push's out all the fluid,it can damage and score the pump, and other stuff. I went to a training course (sorry it was a F*RD course),on using the new trans flushing machines, and we were shown cut open pumps that were damaged by only running a few secs with no oil. You can do as you describe, but make sure you are adding fresh fluid at the same time. If you are doing it at home, drain the pan and change the filter, then fill trans with fresh fluid and run for a few secs with the cooler return line off at the transmission to flush every thing out. You will see it change color when the clean fluid comes through. Keep adding fluid as neccesary. This way, nothing will get damaged. Don't use the line going into the cooler or you won't get it all. Using the return line as close to the trans as possible will get all the old fluid from the coolers as well.
