1st of all this site is great and has already saved me money. Thanx to all that give out so much info... .

I just recently purchased my 97 2500 4x4 ctd. Great truck however the truck came from canada and the high beam indicator doesnt work. It has metric gauges except for the spedo and odometer, is this normal?

If the truck had daytime running lights they do not work. i have read threads that talk about the high beam indicator not working on canada trucks with switched out gauge panels. Is this the case with my truck? The bulb was burned out so i replaced it and checked the wire with the meter. It has no voltage. The new bulb works in the other dash holes. I have checked all the fuses and they are all good.

I dont know how to answer your question. Only wanted to add one more. My truck was originally a canadian truck. It has metric gauges for everything except the speedo/odometer. It was my understanding that they had to swap those out and make it go by miles in order to get it registered and sold in the US.

The good side is you know the original mileage. I am somewhat at the mercy of the individuals that did the swap, and how honest they were went they set the US one.

In my case daytime running lights and all work. All gauges, indicators, lights etc. are all fine.

I am not sure who did the gauge switch out or if one was done. From what i am reading i assume it was switched. Dont really know how many miles are on the truck, odometer reads 136,232. I dont know if someone has tampered with the day time running lights or not, but they dont work. All lights work high and low beam. Checked the infamous light switch and all looks good there. Might be in the bright light switch but all seems to work with the exception of the idicator.

First thing I'd check is the the DRL module is connected. It is locate just below the brake master cylinder on the drivers fender. It's a plastic box about the size of a pack of smokes. The group of wires plug into it. If this is discounected your DLR lights and your indicater light will not work. But your headlights will. If it is connected then there is a feed coming out of this that runs the indicator light you could check for voltage, on my 97 it's red with a grey tracer (18g) It also supplies the fog lamp relay. Hope this helps, Cheers

tardog.

Thanx for the reply. The plug is there but no box. the plug has a blue connector in it to show that it has never been pluged in. if there is supposed to be a box how do i get 1?

I guess that I read your post wrong.

The speedo/odometer did get changed if you have miles on the outside in large and kilometers on the inside in small. The canadian version is reverse. Kilometers on the outside and miles on the inside. -- It is normal for everything to be left in metric except the speedo. I never have worried about it. Lucky for me they make the gauges all work the same. Normal is in the middle.

Here's a pic of what mine looks like. I would try a Canadian wrecker for this as it is probably the same as all the CDN Rams, 1500 etc. It has these numbers on it

56004262

60043

Hope this helps,

Tardog thanx for all the help.

Yep, mine is definatly gone. Anyone know if you can jump across the wires to get the high beam indicator to work? That is all i really need anyway, and i am pretty cheap:D

I wouldn't start jumping wires to get the high beam indicator to work if it were me. I believe the modules run about $90. 00 canadian at the dealer, thats probably $20. 00 us(lol). Good luck. :--)

I think this should be quite simple. Tap into a high beam feed some where (maybe right at the drivers side HL) and then wire it to the wire in the plug I discribed above. Maybe do a test to start, Take 12 volts off your battery, run it through a vey low amp fuse. (to prtect things if we get the incorrect wire) Then apply it to the mentioned wire, this shoulod tell you if your indicator lights up when 12v is applied? The red/grey tracer is from my 97 shop manual, Good luck
