I have '98 2500 Canadian truck with headlights on when running... . I searched the forums and found everything but this one.

I normally run my lights when driving anyway... . I want to eliminate the factory Canadian headlight option, as sometimes when hunting we may sit next to a field for awhile to stay warm and I want the lights off when just hanging out.

can I just unplug from the relay and go right into the harness??? anyone done this.

Thnx B.

I'm not sure about this but I believe I have read that the daytime light thing is on a seperate relay which also reduces the voltage to the daytiome lights. If you can find the relay, maybe you can just unplug it. bg

ok. . it's cold outside and dark and it's my Fri, Miller time, anyone have a pic of it's location and what the beast looks like??

I assume its in the fuse box under the hood on the fender with the other relays???

Peace, B.

Uuhhh, are you sure you can stay warm enough sitting in that particular truck? That's a pretty small Cummins under the hood there. :-laf

Seriously, though, if all you're concerned about is the DRLs being off when you're just sitting in the truck to stay warm, they are supposed to go off when the parking brake is engaged. I too have a '98 12V Canadian truck, and any time my parking brake is set, the DRLs go off.

like my truck Eh!... parted that out after the last snow, scored a cherry interior and passed the rest around cheap, truck was cherry till it hit black ice and went down a gully off some tree's, dude had a baaaad day, I bought it off the tow yard... ... . I am going in to find the relay and pop it out and see what happens in the morning... to be honest I like full power low beams all day I kinda want it to work with just the switch... our weather sucks 8 months of the year around the NW, bright light's keeps the peep's off the grill.

Sorry I was wrong... I was thinking of the seat belt thing the DRL module is located on the left fender just under the brake booster. There is one plug to it that you can pull out and your lights will shut off, however your highbeam indicator won't work unless you jump pins 1 & 4 of the plug.

On my 98 12v the "daytime driving lights" only come on once the emergency brake is released.

Like budnate, I will idle the truck to stay warm when out hunting some times and I just keep the emergency brake on and the headlights stay off.

Any other time I always turn the lights on so that the running lights are on as well.

Try setting the emergecy brake rather than cannibalizing the wiring, usually a lot less grief in the long run.

thnx guys for the tips... drizzle raining today, I am going looking for it and see what happens when it lets up.

why I am dragging my feat on the e brake deal is, where I hunt it's usually pretty cold like 20's/30's and sometimes we get into sloppy slush snow and I dont want the back brakes to freeze up on me after driving... stopping and having the slush back under the truck freeze after sitting a bit on the side watching birds.

I may be old school, lol. setting the e brake is just usually not done in the winter, Dad warned you as kid and you hear of people getting hung up all the time if they forget and set it and come out later to leave and are stuck , its mostly just rolling plains so your not stressing the trans detent when parking.

20/30 *F = -1. 1/-6. 7 *C, yep, that could cause the e-brake to freeze up I suppose, but I have never experianced it myself.

I have run through water and sloppy snow and up into the mountains and at -18*C (-. 5*F) I have never had the e-brakes freeze up (even after being there for 12 hrs). Might just be my luck though.

You have to go with what works best for you and the relay may be the way to go. Hopefully it doesn't affect to many other items.

Found it no problem unplugged headlights work perfect like a US rig, but no Hi beam indicator light, "works fine when its plugged into the box so i know it lights ok.

found this pic on another thread tried the jumper same holes and the indicator light still dont work, I need to dig into the Haynes manual and read the wiring schematic and figure what 2 to jump.

thnx, I will give it try... got the gauges in this weekend... shoulder operation on thur, so I will out of commision for awhile.

Ah, you don't have to apply the e-brake "all the way" to get the brake light on the dash to come on - at least not on my 99. Touch it a little and the light comes on, stays on until you pull the release handle. I'm thinking this DRL goes out w/e-brake on is an "electrical" thing so it you push down on the e-brake pedal until the brake light on dash comes on the DRLs may go out and then you don't have to worry about the rear brakes freezing. Worth a shot ? ? ?

That's how it is on my truck--no need to push the parking brake pedal all the way.
