Thinking of a new truck. Automatic trans questions

Bought a used 2007 with 90k miles on it from TX. Read the owners manual and found that I'm supposed to be able to select gears when towing. When I tried it, nothing happens. Called dealer, they said they've never seen any problems with this transmission and that they could put a scan tool on it next week. I'm headed to TN on Sunday morning towing the 5'ver and I want to be able to select a max gear when I'm running through the rolling hills down there. Any ideas what I can look for on my own? Trans shifts well up and down the gear range on her own. Trans and exhaust brake is working well together, just can't select a gear. The trans fuse is good.

When you start out you can not slect 1st gear ? I would say take it to a Dealer asap

it it a 07. 5 or 07 ? 07 should still have a 5. 9

It's an 2007. 5 6. 7L with the auto-6 speed selectable trans. I believe it's an Aisin trans? Found a dealer who could look at it today. They said it's not showing any codes and when the switch was voltage tested they got a change in voltage but for some reason the trans was not seeing the voltage change and shifting. It runs up through all six gears and back down through them with the exhaust brake on, seems to be shifting fine, just can't choose a gear with the auto stick button.

I was really hoping to be able to keep the trans out of overdrive while pulling the hills in TN. I think if I keep the exhaust brake on, it should rev higher and stay in 3rd and 4th longer anyways. Wish I had a trans temp guage now.

You will be fine I wouldn't stress over it to much as long as trans isn't hunting for a gear going up hill you will be ok as for Exhaust brake hit the button as soon as you start it n don't worry about it the rest of time

Thanks, I won't. She runs good and I'm glad to have her in the fleet. Much quieter and seems very strong, I think I'm just used to the old 47re auto and the amount of heat it would generate trying to pull that much weight. I wouldn't want anything to be out of the ordinary with one of those transmission's. I know the new auto-6's go into lockup from 4th on up (maybe 3rd?) and stay locked up all the way down to 2nd with the e-brake on, so I should be fine. I'm looking forward to the trip... . It's Bristol and NASCAR time baby.
