Neat article 'bout "Running Shotgun with a TopGun..."

Not In Texas

YEAH BABY!! This thing rocks! After years of procrastinating on getting a digicam, I bought one, and it was worth the wait!

Canon's Powershot Pro1 is an 8Mp, camera with 7x optical zoom and 3. 2 digital (as if digital zoom matters).

The thing is built like a Swiss Watch. The lens is awesome-- just look into it and notice how you see almost NO reflection at all!

The metering is perfect, and the white balance presets are great. The Auto WB isn't as hot, but it works pretty well.

The autofocus is the only thing that this camera gives up to a true Digital SLR. It's pretty decent. It does have a USM, but don't kid yourself, it's not like the USM on the SLRs-- it's kinda slow. So action shots would be a challenge. I don't do action shots so I don't really care.

The macro mode is fantastic. It even has a "super" macro mode that will focus as close as 1/2", but you have to go down to 5Mp resolution. It doesn't matter, as the shots come out great.

Not only does it support all the advanced Canon flash features (all externals, e-ttl, wireless, slow-sync, etc), but it has flash compensation as well. +/- 2 stops in 1/3 increments.

I was spoiled by my SLR and thought it was nice. When I bought a camera, I wanted a top-of the line Pro SLR that was digital.

Well, this Camera does 95% of what those will do at 1/5th of the cost. Not to mention I don't have to lug around a huge bag of extra crap.

Let me know if you want me to email you some high-res pics I took with it. I have a pic of my own eye that I took with the super macro-- it's unreal to see the detail.

Email me if you want to see some pics I took with it or if there's a certain pic of my truck that you want to see.

I bought the Cannon Digital Rebel 6. 3mp It is a full function SLR through the lense veiwfinder, Full Autofocus and Manual, interchangeable lenses. I have 2 lenses, 28-90 and 70-300mm I am wanting to get a 18-35mm Wide angle. I got a top mount hot shoe flash that extends the range to 30'

Got a 256Mb Compact flash card that can hold 110 pictures on medium smooth resolution.

About $1400 for all the stuff... .

I looked at the digital rebel at length. I loved my film SLR.

The reason I didn't get it was primarily that you had to buy the EX flash to get flash exposure compensation. NO flash comp on a $1k camera!!

Also, as much as I wanted the SLR, this camera (the Pro1) was my own personal 95% solution.

The lens on the Pro 1 is really good and pretty flexible, even though it's slow.

The main thing the Pro1 gives up is speed. The DigReb is MUCH faster in focus and general operation. The other thing it lacks is an optical viewfinder. I HATE LCD viewfinders.

But on the whole, I really like this camera. It's so much less to carry around than a full SLR rig.

Now I just need a 512 CF2 card.
