OK, I give up. Where is the "pill bottle" that is supposed to catch the oil vapor from the crankcase. I'm sure mine has gone missing, but I cannot even find where it is supposed to be. I've looked from the top as well as from underneath - no bottle, but lots of oil on the bottom of the pan and steering components and drips on the driveway.

On my Dad's 24 valve it is on the gear cover on the front of the engine. Slide under the truck from the front, and look at the fan, you will see it right in your face, if your truck has one that is.

My 98 12V just has a tube on the left hand side of the motor just blowing in the wind. Just above the front diff ya might see a hose.

Thanks for setting me straight. No wonder I couldn't find it:rolleyes:

Yes, I see the tube hanging down near the back of the engine on the driver's side. Since the oil that I'm seeing is near the front of the engine on the bottom of the pan I guess it is not coming from the breather tube. And since I just replace the front seal when I tabbed the KDP and I don't see any oil slinging off the crank damper I'm pretty sure it is not the front seal. So, I guess the pan gasket is probably the culprit:(

Any other ideas?

Mine was leaking power steering fluid and leaking from the timing pin. Also turbo return line at the block( 3" long rubber hose)

Is the crankcase oil vent tube on the back of the engine on the 98's? On my 2001 it is just behind the fan, on the front of the engine...

The 12's have the breather tube by the starter and the 24's are up front near the fan.

12v "DRIP FIX":

Drill a hole through the tube approx. 1/8" dia. ,1/4" from the end, get a 4 to 6 ounce bottle use a "unibit" and drill the cap till is fits on the tube, drill a few holes in the top of the bottle so it can breathe, put the cap on the tube cut a piece of wire, 1/8", to go through the tube hole and just long enough so it fits the mouth of the bottle, screw the bottle on and enjoy a clean place to lay under your 12v!

Empty the bottle at oil changes, mine gets about 3/8 to 1/2 inch in 4000 miles.

Good idea 956Wheel. I have been getting annoyed by the drips because I love to have clean concrete and no leaks. I will be doing this little mod one of these days.
