Some friends from Cedar City Diesel installed the baby spring into the exsisting 3K GSK I already had yesterday. However we could not get the thing dialed in for nothing!

When they first started it it would rev to 4K fine, but hang @ 2K RPMs when throttle was let off of. We worked with it and worked with it trying taking clicks out and putting clicks in. They finally got it where it would idle around 1,000RPMS but if you go drive it or move it as soon as you try to return it to idle it just idles down and dies.

I myself am working on it now and I tried putting in an additional click after someone told me the idle spring may not be tight enough. When I started it it was at like 1300-1400 RPM idle. I got out adjusted the idle down some and started it back up and it was at 500RPM. Giving it a light amount of throttle it shot back up to 1500RPM's and sticks there again!!

HELP! :{ :{ :{

If it was me, I'd take the new springs out, reset it back to the original 3gsk settings (you did record them didn't you?) reset the idle screw and try again at a later date.

I got tired of fighting it, I took the 4K GSK baby spring back out. Truck idles and runs great now (had to adjust idle), but now it will only reach 3200 RPM with my foot on the floor. Before it would do 4000RPM 1/2 way to the floor, but it had the OEM baby spring in there before we swapped. I guess I need to get those back, throw them back in and tighten them down for sled pulling. :confused:

Calling Piers tomorrow.

Sorry you had to move this Mod's, but at the time it was a "911 Thread" :(

For anyone wishing to know, I talked with Piers today for a little bit. We came to the conclusion that whoever the previous owner had work on the truck just tightened the OEM Gov. Springs down and told him they installed a kit. :rolleyes: :-{} #@$%!

So now I get to spend $125 for a 3K GSK tomorrow, I already have the HD valve springs, and the HD baby springs for 4K GSK were given to me.

That sounds about right to me, a set of 3K's in a 215 will spin to 3600. Look at the bright side, you won't have an RPM issue now!

Mark- You and cousin Dilbert will get her dialed in. Good luck in Cynthiana. Did you get your new toy put on yet?

Did you put HD valve springs in, although I don't think the stockers would float at 3200. Call Piers, I'm sure he'll help.

Do you have the Heavy Duty Valve springs, if not you will float valves at that much RPM. That's not a good thing and can destroy your valves/pistons/head.

If you do have the HD springs, then I'd say your timing is retarded to much to get full use of that much RPM. I know mine started to pop around 3900 before I started all this mess and could actually reach 4000. :rolleyes: I had 17* timing at the time and JR said it didn't have enough timing to get full use of the RPM. Its getting bumped to 19* tomorrow. Oo.

Yes I have the HD valve springs, I did them when I did a headgasket and O-rings a few months ago. I did talk with Piers for a little bit on Monday. We both concured that I most likely had OEM springs and whoever worked on the truck for the previous owner just cranked them down. Piers was right, we pull them out this evening and they were only OEM's. :-{}

Man this is old. His Governor springs were oem. He replaced the valve springs when he did his head gasket and o-ringing a few years ago.
