i just installed a transgo shift kit without any problems but trying to get the valve body back in it seems like the rod on top of the valve body wont go back far enough! i guess there is a springloaded park mechanism that i am pretty sure the rod goes past, but it wont go, the valve body almost lines up but needs to go back farther into the transmission. any advice is appreciated!

Just keep trying. It's a PITA. I have had words with my transmission a number of times. Even out of the truck transmission on the bench... it can fight ya.

Good luck,

Josh

You need to spin the output shaft slightly to get it to engage the park mechanism. Jack up the rear, have someone spin the driveshaft slightly until it pops in.

Been there done that, sometimes they go right in, sometimes they don't.

In the future take the C-clip out and leave the park rod in the transmission. The C-clip can be a PITA but not nearly as bad as the park rod. Put the shift lever in 1 so you can reach the C-clip. Pry it out and don't loose it. Putting it back in is a trick.

ok, thanks for the advice, we have tried all that you have said, but we will give it another shot, so it is a matter of getting the rod by the park mechanism, and that requires turning the tires? if i am understanding you right this will make the mechanism move "out of the way" so the rod can go behind it? we tried it some but will try again. thanks

so it is possible to install the shift rod unattached to the valve body and then attach them with the rod already in the trans?

Hey bud, I searched this in the forums a little. The general idea I came by is to do as was just stated, shove it against the pawl and turn the tires. Only problem is, we did just that, remember? So, maybe now that we have the rod off, try turning the tires and have Mario shove the rod in????

My other solution was to leave the rod out and just not have park, but I just realized that if you do that, it is stuck in park!!!

Its gonna suck not working on it on the lift now, huh?

yea its going to suck, plus we arent going to have any jackstands or anything like that, but hey we will give it a shot, i gotta get this thing going!

well we got it, just like you guys said spin the tires and it will go in! we tried it yesterday but it wouldnt work? i think its one of those things where you come back the next day and it slides right in. well thanks for all your help! the shift kit is mildly impressive, but i think it just made me want a dtt that much more :{ special thanks to pwerwagn and my bro! hooters for you guys this week i will let you know before you guys go to see your cows and sheep in LL :-laf
