Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Can't remove VP44...did I forget something?

Hey Group,



I'm in middle of replacing the VP44 and the gear has been pulled loose, all 4 mounting nuts are removed, the 2 mounting bracket bolts removed. The pump is loose and wiggles a bit but does not slide out? Did I miss removing something or is more muscle and a pry bar required?



Also, once that gear is pulled loose from the shaft what keeps it from falling down where it doesn't belong? I'm leary of removing the puller from it.
