I've wanted one of these trucks for almost 12 years. I've had diesel oldsmobiles, diesel ford escorts, a F250 with the 6. 9 diesel, jap diesels...
Anyway, on my way to the doctor's office I had to take a detour - the orange barrels are out again  Parked on someone's front lawn was a 3/4 ton, 2WD, 5-speed Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesel. Rough looking work truck, but only $2200.
Starts and runs good, but smokes a bit when cold (smells like the timing's retarded a bit?). Has new injectors, 16cm turbo housing.
The grid heater relay has a pushbutton hooked up to it, and the speedometer doesn't work. Hopefully these are easy fixes.
It should be more fun to drive than the old Buick :D

Well its good to see that you got a real truck and not a morgage on wheels. Yes these trucks are easy to work on. Just takes someone to want to make these old trucks get with it again. Congrads and welcome to the TDR. Bill

I'm jealous.......

These things are MUCH better than the 6. 9. $2200? The owner obviously doesnt know what the engine is worth as a used take out. The cold smoke is most likely timing, esp if it has new injectors. If it clears up when warm, I wouldnt worry too much, though. What year is it? Go to your User Control Panel, and fill out your signature, so we know whatcha got: that way we can help you out in the future and you wont have to repost it every time.

Speedo can be a few things- most likey speed sensor, though you might check the electrical connections and truck end of the plug in first- if they arent just so-so, it can reak havoc on ya and drvie you nuts. Fortunatley, stuff like that CANT drive me nuts, I'm already there; or at least a short walk from it. :D

Paychk- sounds like the p. o. already got a tough of the bug that is going around. CB Parker and I got it bad- both of us want 500hp :-laf.

Picked up truck last night

Runs & drives. #5 injector line 'seeps' where it attaches to the injector. It needs a lot of work: brakes soon, rear seal on Getrag, the steering box leaks at the input shaft, the LH side tie rod adjuster sleeve was loose, going to replace it. No exhaust - pipe extends to under the bed, and is broke off from there. And I think it needs a head gasket - oily substance in the radiator.
But, I love it! That sound - there's nothing like it. Drove it real easy on the way home, but I could tell it was just begging me to put the pedal down! The throttle response is awesome!
I'm off to the Cummins place for a long lunch - take out (head gasket set and timing cover so I can kill the KDP). I can't wait to drive this thing!
