Rats got me!!!

I got a shock today. While inspecting my newly installed 988 HD front springs I noticed that there is a stamp on my front steel factory wheels "capacity 2600 pounds". GAWR on door is 5200 pounds. I took for granted that DC would place a wheel capacity that matched an "E" rated tire. I recon I is way wrong.

that is just one rim. Add 2600 + 2600 = 5200lbs which matches your GAWR

Well, you found the limiting factor that establishes the 5200 lb GAWR. A lot of people think it's the load capacity of the tires - as you have shown, that's not always the case!!

Rusty

cumminz where did you get your lear springs for your 04. Was it a full replacement set or was it an add a leaf. My springs in my 03 are shot! I am going to try 988s on my 03 for the front as well and I need some help finding rear springs.

ThunderRoad has steel wheels.

I had special springs fabricated at Charlotte Spring. There were two extra leafs added. They placed them to where the length fell between each leaf on top of the other. That helped support the spring on top. If you know what I mean.

We made a 400 mile trip to the NC coast this week and I do like the 988s.
