0013 & AZPETE,

I'm planning on leaving on Monday. Staying at AZ. Charlie's RV park.

If you guys haven't gone before, it's a good time.

I believe Thurs. and Fri. will be Dyno Days near the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. That's a pretty good time. Plenty of smoke!

Hope to see you all there.

ANYONE ELSE GOING???

Question for you Phoenix guys. I used to take the turn off to lake Pleasent to get to the Wickenburg highway. A couple of years ago we tried a couple of roads off I-10 with nothing but 25 mph construction zones. Is there a good route off I-10 to get to the Wickenburg highway? Will be leaving Thursday morning, anyone else is going up then let me know.

Thanks.

Pete

You can cross Hoover Dam so long as your vehicle is non-commercial. There may be an inspection--the stop is 9 miles S of the Dam.

You will miss a few Wednesday talks, etc. if you come Thursday:

9 AM “Idle Clatter” by Jim Anderson

10:30-11 Manual Clutches by South Bend Clutch

11-11:30 AM High Performance Air Intake Systems by Stewart Peterson, aFe

1-2 PM “Introduction to the Turbo Diesel” or a primer for beginners, by Robert Patton and John Holmes.

Get-together 4-8 PM, with snacks/dinner hosted by Saitta-Trudeau Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge, Pahrump, NV.

Show-n-Shine contest ($200 first place; $100 second place, $50 third place).

The other talks are repeated on Friday. You will especially want to try to attend the talks by Cummins.

Have a safe trip and enjoy the rally!

AZPETE: Route Through Phoenix.

Hi AZPETE.

You've got a couple of choices regarding getting through Phoenix to Wickenburg.

#1. Take I-10 to N. I-17. Go north through town to the Carefree Hwy. Exit 223, (route to Lake Pleasant). West on Carefree Hwy. which turns into 74, to Morristown where you will pick up 60, just outside of Wickenburg.

#2. I-10 through to the west side of Phoenix where you will come to N. bound 202, between exit 133 &134. Take that to Grand Ave. (Hwy. 60) exit. Go west to Wickenburg.

#3. I-10 through to far west side of Phoenix to exit 124, Loop 303 (Cotton Rd. ). Go N. to Hwy. 60, then go W. to Wickenburg. The only problem with this route is that there are a lot of cross streets. The cross streets have the stop signs but, sometimes people don't see them and they have some bad accidents. The Sheriff patrols that road a lot, I've heard.

I would recommend #1 or #2. Using #2, you will encounter stoplights and traffic through Sun City, El Mirage, Sun City West for maybe 5 or 6 miles then it will open up into the desert all the way to Wickenburg.

Hope this helps, and I'm looking forward to seeing you at May Madness.

Joe, I would have loved to go up earlier but can not get off work any sooner. A friend of mine when to Vegas afew weeks ago and said the line at the check point was at least an hour. Will be considering going around through Laughlin mainly because I'm wondering if a 50 gallon ice chest of Margarita mix is considered hazardous material.

Buffalo, #1 is the way I have gone in the past. Was just hoping a new fast road had been put through off I-10. Will hit Phoenix at AM rush hour and am not looking forward to that. #3 is a road my truck has been on numerous times. Only problem is I know my truck would turn west to Fred Swanson's house and then I wouldn't have enough money left to have fun in Vegas!
