I am starting this thread in the General Ram Forum because it applies to all Diesel owners in California (SRoC) and thought it would be helpful for all to see.

I received a post card in the mail from CARB asking me to go to a web page from CARB Truck Stop and it directs you to a questionnaire. They want to know how many diesels vehicles you own as the first question and the second question asks for the GVWR of each and then some questions that are not applicable to most of us. Then a list appears, to explain what your requirements will be. So I called 866-634-3735 and got a woman that has no clue to what our engines are or will need per the law. At one point she told me that I would have to replace my engine in my 04 and I would have to add a PM filter on the 07. After 10 minutes on the phone it came down to not knowing what I have to do and she will e-mail me the requirements. Well after researching the CARB website, I will possibly be required to install a DPF system on my 04. 5 by 2014 and report my plan of action to CARB by 2011.

I don't know what is the truth here, but as more of TDR members from California (SRoC) get these notices, we will get more of an accurate picture of our requirements. At the least, we will have random inspections of our CTD's to include smoke tests by sensor or a color comparisons and your smog devises better be there or big fines be levied.

Looks to me like that applies only to commercial owners, and/or trucks USED commercially? Didn't see anything aimed at private vehicles for private usage - but of course, still not good for the commercial guys either - especially the smaller guys...

MAN, sure makes ME wish I was back in California...:p

Will will have to smog as of 2010.

Snap test, OBD check and visual is all that is required.

The crap the stupid braud is talking about refers to commercial vehicles.

It appears that our Air Resources Board acting on a pilot program that was brought on by AB1488(a 2 year pilot program of testing and info gathering) has begun the countdown to testing all diesel equipped pickups over 6000 gvwr and under 14000gvrw. The information dated July 2009 is available at: http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/mailouts/mso0904/mso0904.pdf
This is for real people not just a possibility... . read the the finding on the ARB's own site on their letterhead with the seal of the Governor on the document... . yay Arnold:(

Fleets including 2 or more vehicles will be tested for smoke output and visual starting 2010, including any diesel powered car or pickup. Individual personal vehicles can't be far off for inspection IMHO

Coming to a state near you...

Don't laugh. With all the greenies up your way,it's coming. I agree, it appears to be aimed at the commercial guys. Really will be tough on the independents. :{

First California, then the rest of us next. The same socialist tree hugger fools that comprise the government of CA now run the federal government.

As much as I like to pat myself on the back for leaving CA 21 years ago I fear that the same disease may spread throughout the rest of the US.

The bottom line is that the federal government doesn't want vehicles like ours on the roadways. Little by little, they will make it virtually impossible to operate our pick-ups legally and we will have to conform to their will and drive what they say is acceptable to the "green movement".

Plain and simple. Enjoy your truck (mods, smells, sounds, etc... ) now as the future is dim for guys like us (IMHO).

It just won't be the same having a pick-up sounding/acting like a Prius.

It seems to be aimed at commercial use, but the post card was addressed to "Diesel Engine Owner" and not "Cool Wright" which is the business the 3500 C&C is registered for at 26K GCVWR, and the registration is in our names not the business name. Also, I asked specific questions as being a private truck pertaining to my 2500, and she stated that it will require a PM (particulate mater) filter in 2014 with a report to the CARB as to my "plan" about the conversion to the PM by 2011.

The CARB program is for trucks or busses with a GVWR at 14,000 and greater, but when you look at the questions, it gives choices for less than the 14K, and there will be requirements for those weight classes as well. here is the link. the TRUCK STOP | Diesel Vehicles If you check only one truck and under 14K (10K-14K, most/all 3500's) it will list your requirements and it doesn't seperate the differences between commercial and private use, just the requirements. Also, you can do the same for 6K-10K for most/all 2500's.

This is the problem with our government, you got all of these nair-do-wells, NIMBY's, eco-nuts, carbon-nuts, running the govt.

And they want to run and control Health Care, fight back !

The home I just bought in Las Vegas for retirement is a head start in getting out of this wacko State, but because of the volume of business California generates and the OTR trucking companies that will have to comply with in order to do business in the State, it will raise prices for all.

When are we going to just say no to these idiots and vote them out which will scare the idiots we can't vote out. We can make a difference only if we band together and force the issue. Also the trucking companies should just stop doing business in this State.

There is your answer. Stop all deliveries, including scabs. And stop until they are removed from office.

some educated greenie thinks they have all the answers. Show them you have an option too.

Tell them to go get thier supplies with a prius pulling a trailer.

You'll never get widespread protest involvement from the 18 wheeler crowd, AS LONG AS all they have to do is tack on various surcharges to their cost of operation, and force the end users to pay the tab - an option us non-commercial users DON'T have...

Adopt strict fixed hauling rates, WITHOUT those surcharges, and OVERNIGHT, there would be a trucker's protest of massive proportions - as it is, all that these regulations do, is force out the smaller guys, and INCREASE the hauling volume for the bigger guys - and of course, they LOVE that outcome!

I agree. The opertunist sees others as giving up the fight, so there is more business for him. So, the emisions crap just isn't quite deep enough for all to resist.

Exactly HB.....

As goes Ca so goes the rest of the country, and not with just environmental sht either. #@$%!. If memory serves me I believe there was recent rulings on EPA emissions for the rest of the US to mirror Ca strict smog laws laws.

Fkn queers.

Mac:rolleyes:
