I am starting this thread in the General Ram Forum because it applies to all Diesel owners in California (SRoC) and thought it would be helpful for all to see.
I received a post card in the mail from CARB asking me to go to a web page from CARB Truck Stop and it directs you to a questionnaire. They want to know how many diesels vehicles you own as the first question and the second question asks for the GVWR of each and then some questions that are not applicable to most of us. Then a list appears, to explain what your requirements will be. So I called 866-634-3735 and got a woman that has no clue to what our engines are or will need per the law. At one point she told me that I would have to replace my engine in my 04 and I would have to add a PM filter on the 07. After 10 minutes on the phone it came down to not knowing what I have to do and she will e-mail me the requirements. Well after researching the CARB website, I will possibly be required to install a DPF system on my 04. 5 by 2014 and report my plan of action to CARB by 2011.
I don't know what is the truth here, but as more of TDR members from California (SRoC) get these notices, we will get more of an accurate picture of our requirements. At the least, we will have random inspections of our CTD's to include smoke tests by sensor or a color comparisons and your smog devises better be there or big fines be levied.
