Hey fellas, I'm considering picking up a set of Performance Friction brake pads tomorrow for a quick change and I was wondering do they create a lot of dust?

What kind of pads create a lot of brake dust and what kind don't?

Thanks for the help.

I used Performance Friction pads ONCE. And that was enough. They squeel, make an obvious grating sound and don't last any longer than other good pads. I was also told by their rep who did'nt want me to repeat it, that they will wear out your rotors. Just my $. 02. Jim

Don't! Very large amounts of black dust. Cost me a rotor which was okay since I was able to convince the wife an EGR upgrade was a logical choice. Carbon Metalic seem to grab alittle better, but get the kevlars from EGR and their grease or any top line pad from Raybestos, etc. Really clean the mating ares for rotor and slide areas. Use good grease to lube and you should be good to go.

I dunno. I've had Performance Frictions Carbon Metallics on for a while now and have had no problems with dust, stopping, or grinding issues. Rotors are still in good shape, no pulsing warpage or whathaveyou.

I've got no complaints.

I have Carbon metallic brake pads for about 5,000 miles, no complaints. I have not noticed any noise and very little dust buildup.

Something to consider:

I keep the rear brakes adjusted (every oil change) and I put 1/16" larger wheel cylinders on the rear so the front brakes don't have to do so much of the braking.

This reduces heat (glazed, squealing pads) and wear(dust) on the front.

I have found keeping the rear drum brakes adjusted helps reduce front brake problems on other brands of vehicles I have owned, GM, Ford ,Toyota, etc,.
